RESIDENT EVIL 3 Breaks Out

RESIDENT EVIL 3 is now available on Steam, offering the Windows edition of this remake of Capcom's survival/horror game. In addition to this (timely) game based on escaping a deadly pandemic, this also includes Resident Evil Resistance, a new asymmetrical survival game in the Resident Evil setting. The game doesn't carry a launch discount, but RESIDENT EVIL 2 / BIOHAZARD RE-2 is half-off on Steam for the next couple of weeks. Update: Thanks to Cram for pointing out that you can get 22% off on a Steam key for this at Green Man Gaming. This post has the Launch Trailer and the details, including word that Jill Valentine will join the Resistance as a playable Survivor on April 17th::
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil 3 stars Jill Valentine—one of video games’ most iconic heroines—as she escapes from a doomed Raccoon City while being pursued by the unrelenting bioweapon Nemesis. Familiar foes and fresh new content come to life with modernized gameplay and vivid graphics made possible by RE Engine, previously utilized to create the acclaimed Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 2, and Devil May Cry 5.

Resident Evil Resistance
A Mastermind plots a deadly course by manipulating the environment and wielding a strategic deck of cards that create dangerous obstacles including vicious creatures, traps, and weaponized security cameras. In turn, Survivors must work together using their individual special abilities and the items they come across to thwart the Mastermind, and escape the experiment before time runs out.

Upcoming Contents

Jill Valentine will be playable as a Survivor in Resident Evil Resistance on April 17, 2020.

I'm about two hours in and it's okay. RE3 was more action-oriented than the previous two titles but I feel they've gone a bit too far with it and the similarities between both title are few and far between. While it has the same locations and characters the story itself is out of order which creates this weird pacing and the creative liberties make this more of a hard re-imagining than a soft remake especially when you look at how RE1R/RE2R were done. I really, really hate how they went about introducing Nemesis though.

It's nice seeing Raccoon City from the ground floor but when I saw the game clocked in at ~20GB I was pretty surprised so I am gearing up for a very quick game which I worry has little to no replay value since Mercenaries was stripped out.

I have a feeling that if Resistance wasn't bundled in then this would have made more sense as a $30USD game or maybe even as an expansion pack to RE2R.

Shorter game times surprised me at times but are also welcomed. With the amount of back log that it's easy to accumulate these days, where in the heck can anyone find all the time to get through and literally beat every title in their library? 6-10 hours is my perfect game time of how long a game should be. Just enough to get out before it either gets boring/repetitive or eats up too much time I can put into another one of my other games.

Yeah, 1st world problems.

I'm okay with short games especially when Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3 have historically been pretty short. The issue I have is replay-ability. For me, I remember playing through RE3 as many times as needed to unlock the epilogues (think there were 9?) or firing up Mercenaries but RE3R has neither. Even the choices which you are presented with for a risk/reward system are quasi-removed (the way they impact the story slightly is totally gone though) so there's nothing to really challenge yourself to do especially with how crazy they ramped up the dodge mechanic and how generators used to stun Nemesis are always conveniently placed to do so.

I hate to say it's an on-rail experience but it feels much more linear and predictable than RE3 and that's not saying a whole lot.

Uh, 6 to 10 hours? Okay. Maybe if the game cost 6 to 10 dollars.
