This is what VR needs, so just my opinions here, flame away all you want =):
As usual, there are people having opinions about VR here that have never tried it.
You can't compare VR to 3D movies, it's not the same at all, no interaction and no true 3D.
Then we have the people who "wait" until 3D will give them the full immersion with a running track etc (most of those have never tried VR either).
VR is pretty great today, with some stumbling blocks.
The main stumbling block for VR is the crappy controllers any headset comes with.
They are to me, the main thing that can break VR, as there is no standard and they are always clunky, demanding too much space and really, they don't do anything that a mouse and keyboard can do.
It's just a matter of implementing the mouse and keyboard properly.
I think of them as toys, and I am too old to be interested in toys.
Then we have the people that are saying that playing with mouse and keyboard breaks the immersion.
VR controllers are breaking my immersion any time I use them.
With a mouse and keyboard, I don't have to "think" how to move as it is in my spine after 30 years of gaming.
I don't teleport around in VR, I move as in any FPS game.
Non-standard controllers will spoil this every time.
However, it seems as if Alyx will allow a seated experience according to the steam page, here's one hoping it supports keyboards and mouse.
So here's one hoping Half-Life: Alyx will raise the bar.
