After considerable procrastination I finally completed my Windows 10 "upgrade"
yesterday. You may recall I had a second imperative beyond the end-of-life for
Windows 7, as my Windows 7 refused to install a bunch of updates over the past
several months. This was probably the reason I couldn't perform an inline
upgrade to Win10, but that glitch was probably a blessing in disguise, as many
of you pointed out a clean install was far preferable anyway. So I installed a
new SSD yesterday and set to it. The hardest part of the whole process was
convincing the installer to use the new SSD, as it had various complaints about
its formatting and partitioning. But some research online showed me the hoops I
needed to jump through in order to get this to work. After that it was quite
easy. And between my browser syncing itself, being able to copy the data from my
email, and simply pointing reinstalls of programs like Steam and Battle.net
towards my existing libraries, I got things where I needed them to be in
surprisingly short order.
