Ubisoft May Replace E3 With "Digital Experience"

Ubisoft announces that following today's cancellation of E3 2020 they are exploring offering a "digital experience" in its place:
The health and well-being of our teams, players and partners is our top priority, so while we’re disappointed, we fully support the ESA’s decision to cancel E3 2020. E3 is and will continue to be a moment where we come together as a community and share our love of games. We’re exploring other options for a digital experience that will allow us to share all the exciting news we have planned, stay tuned for more

If we do everything online, how can we have awesome unscripted live moments like the Tesla truck windows got broken.

Once the company see's the saving and measures. Would be surprised to hear airline/hotel/party organizers say well into the future "it never came back all the way after corona in 2020".

The companies know quite well what it costs, they would have stopped long ago if that was at all a problem. These kind of gatherings create big tourism dollars for wherever they take place, so the cities and their local businesses would not simply let it go, like "darn, it sure was nice when." You'd simply see them pay [more] for the companies to keep coming, like how many places subsidize film-making.

Watch and learn.

honestly a digital thing is a great idea for the simple reason that it won't be anywhere near as cringy as the stage shows

but I'm happy to be proven wrong with digitally delivered cringe.

We went to E3 in 2017, as my wife got us a pair of press badges for it, which meant we got in ahead of the unwashed masses.

I knew everything that was there two days before we saw it, because the companies couldn’t resist being the first to spill the beans on their announcements. As a result, it was rather unexciting. Sure, there were booths set up for games that were kind of neat to see, but honestly we felt done with it on the first day there.
I think this may be the end of E3, as companies will find there’s JUST as much buzz for a game if it’s announced online. It saves everyone a bunch of money and doesn’t force companies to cobble together a demo that’s got a strict deadline.

Well sure. So has everyone else on the internet; including my posts this morning. It would be so substantially cheaper, and so much more well controlled, why wouldn't they? Nintendo (and others) have owned it for years successfully.

Well, yeah, it's easy to write that now because Hindsight is 20/20.

I was referring to this site alone. I hadn't seen anyone else on BN explicitly say what the outcome of E3's closure is. I was the first in the E3 cancellation thread to write, "Publishers are going to move to video streaming to announce their products." Ubisoft's "exploring offering a "digital experience" in its place" is "Publishers are going to move to video streaming to announce their products" as the direct result of E3's closure due to COVID-19.

Acknowledged, and fair enough.

Yeah, besides saving companies a shit ton of money by blowing off expos it's more environmentally friendly too. Virtual experiences are the way to go.
