NEWS: E3 2020 CANCELLED DUE TO GROWING CONCERNS OVER COVID-19 VIRUS
After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry – our fans, our employees, our exhibitors, and our longtime E3 partners – we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles.
Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.
Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.
We are also exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020. Updates will be shared on E3Expo.com.
We thank everyone who shared their views on reimagining E3 this year. We look forward to bringing you E3 2021 as a reimagined event that brings fans, media, and the industry together in a showcase that celebrates the global video game industry.

You've misunderstood the problem. The underlying deadliness, or lack thereof, of COVID-19 isn't the problem; the problem is COVID-19s capacity to overwhelm the health care system causing otherwise preventable deaths at large scale...
Great points. Thank you for sharing.
These coming weeks/months will erode the ignorance from the misinformed.
Do you see this guy from a couple days ago, Rudy Gobert? A millionaire basketball player making fun of the situation.
Well today he tested positive. The NBA season has been suspended.

I'm blown away Linus is going ahead, for now, with LTX 2020, ballsy. These game, technology and entertainment expos - rife with some that could not give a second thought to personal hygiene.
In his defense, Linux is pretty immune to viruses, what with hackers focusing mostly on Windows exploits.![]()

Yeah, I mean, the flu kills 0.1% whereas the coronavirus kills up to 3.4%. Definitely not as bad as the common flu. We should have just let the coronavirus spread unchecked and it would mean only 11 million of USA's 327 million population will die of it.
Being a gear head... if it's the tree-huggin vegan prius-driving smug-tards... I'm ok with that number! Heck! They can take their Holistic medicine!
j/k![]()
I think being prepared taking some precautions is one thing... over-hyping and claiming the sky is falling, is another.

And? It's still just a fucking flu virus at the end of the day. Odds are it's not even as bad as the common strains. Lots of people, way more in fact, have those common strains right now and yet no one is losing their shit over that or even remembering it exists. People are so fucked in head.

1) By now, dozens of conferences have been canceled, none due to convenient timing to shut down
2) E3 had one of its largest years every last year
3) Microsoft, among others, is still planning to do announcements during the scheduled time, meaning they were fully bought in on E3
4) E3 had a public component, but was predominantly a trade show. I think many people here miss that. It was used as a stage for large announcements, but the bulk of its activity was industry stuff, not announcements. That's why companies spend so much money sending employees there. The public facing stuff was the icing, not the cake.
However, I fully agree with your second post - some people truly are fucked in the head. They never seem to notice, though...
1) Yes. However, COVID-19 was the primary reason many canceled and not because of any sudden or planned losses of supporters and attendees.
2) True, but only because they started focusing on consumers over the past twelve years, and recently, on celebrities and influencers to reach an even larger audience. Fundamentally they've changed. They went too far from their roots as an industry trade show.
3) Microsoft wasn't going to be at E3 this year. They planned on renting space next to E3 to run parallel to the event. Obviously, with their satellite presence to E3, it wouldn't have been hard for E3 attendees to visit their locale.
4) Yes. However, E3 became increasingly consumer-friendly over the past decade.
