E3 2020 Officially Cancelled

Following up on the story below, the E3 Website now officially announces the cancellation of E3 2020, with the ESA saying they are offering full refunds to exhibitors and attendees. They also say they are exploring their options for providing an online showcase for game industry announcements in June and promise E3 2021 will be "a reimagined event." Unsurprisingly, they confirm the cancellation is due to concerns about the COVID-19 coronavirus:
NEWS: E3 2020 CANCELLED DUE TO GROWING CONCERNS OVER COVID-19 VIRUS
After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry – our fans, our employees, our exhibitors, and our longtime E3 partners – we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles.

Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.

Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.

We are also exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020. Updates will be shared on E3Expo.com.

We thank everyone who shared their views on reimagining E3 this year. We look forward to bringing you E3 2021 as a reimagined event that brings fans, media, and the industry together in a showcase that celebrates the global video game industry.

Well, I for one, when having a serious running nose regularly use bountiful toilet paper kept at hand, to wipe and discard.

Americans are barbarians. While the rest of the world washs off poop, we smear it on paper. No one wants to run out of poop smearing paper.

LOL. I still can't figure that one out. The hand sanitizer I get, but the rush on toilet paper? I mean what is up with that?
Because people are stupid. Apparently during the 1973 oil crisis Johnny Carson did a joke about a shortage of TP and panic purchasing ensued.

Anyway, I´ll ask again if anyone knows something about Creston, I miss his posts since december.
Also, CJ Parker.
Difference being Creston has posted every day for the last 2 years and disappeared without a trace. Parker got tired of a certain person bitching and said he was taking a century off. So certain person wins, cool huh.

I just hope this E3 cancellation will make game dev to announce their games (and gaming related stuff) in other ways and realize how irrelevant E3 had become. I don't like ESA and I don't mind they are losing support.

As for the person you quoted, In general we try to ignore "it".

Have a nice stay, the waters fine.

Thanks! I've lurked for quite a while, but I've never felt the need to post till now. I know "it" should be ignored, but in times like this, stupidity should be countered before it infects the rest who might not know better.

Scottish Martial Arts wrote on Mar 11, 2020, 20:35:
Health care is a finite resource: there are only so many hospital beds, doctors, nurses, medical laboratories, doses of medication, etc. Most of the resources that make up a health care system are also extremely expensive, especially so in the United States. As a consequence, health care systems tend to have enough resources to deal with the average demands with some amount of excess demand. As you may have noticed, we're still in flu/pneumonia season, which itself consumes the lion's share of the health care system's resources each year. If you layer on a large outbreak of corona virus, the resulting influx of patients will overwhelm the system's ability to cope.
Good post, but just to add one thing you missed: As the number of patients increase, so do the risks to those who have to spend time attending to patients: the healthcare workers. They get exposed for longer, and inevitably, they will contract the disease. So the higher the number of patients, the more likely it is that the numbers of doctors and nurses available will decrease as well as they contract the disease.

So it's not just the beds and equipment available versus the number of patients, the manpower available to care for the patients will also decrease as well.
