Epic Expresses Support for GeForce NOW

In contrast to the story above, a pair of tweets from Tim Sweeney express support for the GeForce NOW service (thanks PCGamesN). He says Fortnite will work on GeForce NOW and that Epic will also allow Epic Games Store exclusives "that choose to participate" to work on the cloud gaming service:
Epic is wholeheartedly supporting NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW service with Fortnite and with Epic Games Store titles that choose to participate (including exclusives), and we’ll be improving the integration over time.

It’s the most developer-friendly and publisher-friendly of the major streaming services, with zero tax on game revenue. Game companies who want to move the game industry towards a healthier state for everyone should be supporting this kind of service!

There's a lot I don't like about Tim Sweeney or the way Epic Games conducts business these days but credit where it's due, good on him for supporting this. While it appears the companies pulling their games definitely have every legal right to do so, I think it's a dumb and short-sighted move.

For once I wish he was more short-sighted, game streaming services are a disaster waiting to happen.
Unfortunately, it's the future. May as well be as good as it can be.

I haven't the foggiest idea, but I've little reason to trust Sweeney or Epic's motives in this area.
I trust Tim Sweeny and Epic as much as I trust Gabe Newell and Valve:

Not at all.

Neither is your friend, nor are the companies they head your friend. They're all in it to make money as their main focus, the games being sold and the services they support are only there to help them achieve this.

What if it is? What is the negative impact for you or the gaming community as a whole?

The cynical part of me immediately suspects this decision was not made out of any real support for Nvidia or even a liking of game streaming, but instead as a ploy to lessen Steam's dominance on PC gaming. Although GeForce Now can play games from Steam, it launches from its own client. If people get used to not using Steam, they'll consider it less essential, and that will lessen its importance.

Is this really the goal? I haven't the foggiest idea, but I've little reason to trust Sweeney or Epic's motives in this area.
