Amnesia: Rebirth Announced

Frictional Games announces the project they've been teasing so heavily is Amnesia: Rebirth, a new entry in the horror series that first put them on the map. This is coming this autumn, and here's the Announcement Trailer with a first look at their plans. The game's official website and Steam Listing have more details. Before we forget, here's the announcement:

Ten years ago Amnesia: The Dark Descent heralded a new generation of horror. Five years ago, SOMA took us to fresh depths of terror. Now, steel yourself for the next nightmare as we at Frictional Games prepare to release Amnesia: Rebirth this autumn. A new story set in the world of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Rebirth represents yet another evolutionary leap for Frictional Games, challenging players to remain calm in the face of unimaginable terror.

Get a glimpse of what’s to come in today’s announcement trailer and first in-game images.

Amnesia: Rebirth is a new descent into darkness in the iconic Amnesia series. Set in the desolate landscape of the Algerian desert, the game will focus on new character Tasi Trianon as she sets out on a harrowing journey through devastation and despair, personal terror and pain, while exploring the limits of human resilience.

You can’t let out a breath. The creature is only inches away. Its sole purpose – to feed off your terror. And so you crouch in the dark, trying to stop the fear rising, trying to silence what lies within you.

Retracing Tasi’s journey and pulling together the fragments of a shattered past will be the only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you. Time is against you. Still, you must continue, step by step, knowing that if you fail you will lose everything.

Amnesia: Rebirth is scheduled for release in autumn 2020 on PC and PlayStation 4. Wishlist on Steam in order to follow along with the updates as they are released.

I hope this is built from the ground up with VR support. Loved the Dark Descent and Soma so much.
Same. There's a vr mod for the first Penumbra game, it's so immersive and the game play works perfect with motion controls. It feels like a game that was meant for vr.

No Redeye I gave that one a skip because I read the reviews. I'm sure many enjoy being victimized by facehuggers and xenomorphs but I just don't enjoy victim gameplay.

That unkillable enemy mechanic of the first game is too off-putting for me.

I wish it was the Penumbra series instead.
Hopefully it's better than the second Amnesia which I quickly lost interest in.

With that exception I've loved all of their games.

To be fair, Fricitional didn't make the 2nd Amnesia. The Chinese Room did (I think that was their name if my memory serves). Fricitional only published the game.

Yeah I knew that, still sucked. Was still Amnesia 2.
Hopefully Amnesia 3 is good with Frictional making all of it.

What's funny to me when watching these trailers is that based on the immersive first person movement in them I'm always second guessing myself about whether or not it's being played in VR. Of course it's almost always the case that it's just an immersive animation specific to the trailer and movement in the actual game will be like any other WSAD+mouse input with QTEs for the interactions.

1. Cool. Hopefully we'll get a SOMA sequel too. That was a very enjoyable game that had languished in my queue for far too long.

2. The ergonomics on that pilot's seat made my eye twitch. You'd have to bend way forward to reach those levers.

I wish they would add a safe mode to The Dark Descent so I could finish it. It's the only way I finished Soma while enjoying the story and grim atmosphere. That unkillable enemy mechanic of the first game is too off-putting for me.
