Game Developers Conference Postponed Due to Coronavirus

An Important GDC 2020 Update announces that the 2020 Game Developers Conference is being postponed due to concerns about the COVID-19 coronavirus. Word is they plan to reschedule the trade show to an unspecified time this summer:
After close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and community around the world, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Game Developers Conference this March.

Having spent the past year preparing for the show with our advisory boards, speakers, exhibitors, and event partners, we're genuinely upset and disappointed not to be able to host you at this time.

We want to thank all our customers and partners for their support, open discussions and encouragement. As everyone has been reminding us, great things happen when the community comes together and connects at GDC. For this reason, we fully intend to host a GDC event later in the summer. We will be working with our partners to finalize the details and will share more information about our plans in the coming weeks.

I don't see the situation being any better in summer, so postponing the event seems rather silly. Better to instead make it a digital show as a one-off.
We'll be ok.

Actual numbers instead of stupid memes...and from a hack liberal site so you can't cry Fox.

Eat those numbers.

I mean, we're arguing the same thing.

First off, your article is incorrect. It says the fatality rate of Spanish Flu, 1918, was 10%. He's wrong, it was well documented as 2.5%. He says that's the mortality rate. Again, that's incorrect.

So we're off to a bad start by using an investment site as our primary source, when they can't get their historical numbers correct.

Next, he goes into the rates of what we're seeing here. Again, they're pretty high.

Individuals aged 10 years to 39 years had a case fatality rate of only 0.2%. The case fatality rate increased for individuals with confirmed cases in their 40s (0.4%), 50s (1.3%), 60s (3.6%), 70s (8%), and 80s (14.8%).

The flu is 0.1% across the board. Each of these rates is about 20x what the regular flu is. Which means that these are the same numbers we're telling you are a concern. 1 out of every 100 people over 50 that get this will die. That's why conferences are shutting down. How many people at GDC do you think are over 50? A few thousand.

But the biggest issue, unsurprisingly, is that this will kill 15% of people over 80. You guys seem to think that's cool. Others of us feel like we need to be prepared to find ways to bring that number down.
