Metro Exodus Comes to Steam Next Week

This tweet announces the Epic Games Store exclusivity for Metro Exodus will end on February 15th when 4A Games' shooter sequel comes to Steam (thanks DSOGaming). Here's the Steam release schedule:
Journey beyond in the critically acclaimed #MetroExodus - returning to the Steam Store on Saturday 15th February 2020. Release times as follows:

00:00 ET
5:00 GMT / UTC
6:00 CET
6:00 AEDT

Those of you that have been waiting, thank you for your passion and patience.

Keep in mind, Valve has bought up dev teams to release their games as exclusives on their platform. Or do you not remember Left4Dead and Portal?

I seem to recall those being released for Xbox, PS3 and PC. They also allowed third party sites to buy keys to resell. Valve also bought those teams and brought them in-house to develop products for them.

Anyways for sure companies can do whatever they want in this regard but consumers obviously value choice and will reward companies with policies beneficial to them.

It's honestly better for the dev team and better for consumers in the long run but hey, be pissy over semantics.

The point is to temper your expectations. There is little to no chance of a first-party exclusive appearing on other platforms, whereas there's a higher chance with third-party exclusives. In either case, exclusivity means it will be single platform for some time.

I think you're all over the map. Valve only releases their games on Steam. This action is called "first-party exclusivity." Valve is not the only publisher to do this. EA launched Anthem as an FPE on Origin, Blizzard released Diablo 3 as an FPE to Battle.net, and Epic put Fortnite as an FPE to EGS. FPE is NOT the same as third-party exclusivity, which is what you want.

Ehh, I don't see a difference in the end result. Exclusivity, PERIOD, exists. I don't see why the way EGS does it is any different from Valve having all their titles exclusive to their store. At least in EGS' case, they're only temporarily exclusive.
I'm not saying EGS doesn't have issues, just that "exclusivity" is nothing new whatsoever. Real problems? They haven't added a single feature since they launched. Where's the shopping cart, assholes? How about a gifting option? It'll be a fucking decade before they add anything like Steam Workshop.

To clarify, first-party means the publisher produced the game. If they want it on their platform only, that's understandable. Nobody has a problem with Fortnite only being available on EGS, or Anthem only on Origin. In contrast, third-party publishers don't own a platform to distribute their products, which gives them greater flexibility to distribute on as many outlets as possible. Technically speaking, Epic giving publishers money to make their third-party product exclusive on EGS, invalidates it as a third-party product. It is now a timed-first party exclusive.

....and your point is? In the end, does it actually CHANGE ANYTHING? Nope. Not one bit. Exclusives are exclusives, doesn't matter *why*. Pretending that it DOES matter is idiotic. It still means that if you want "that game", you need to use "that launcher". Cry me a river over them "taking choice away"...don't go defending ANY exclusivity if you're gonna be so vehemently against EGS having exclusives. If a dev team or publisher thinks they'll make more money from an exclusivity deal, then that's what they'll do. It's no different than if a dev team is bought up by a larger publisher ahead of a game release, and then their game is now on THAT platform.

Keep in mind, Valve has bought up dev teams to release their games as exclusives on their platform. Or do you not remember Left4Dead and Portal? EGS just isn't making the exclusivity eternal, and they don't own everything that team ever makes. Agreed. I won't be in any hurry to pay full price for a game coming to the platform that late for that very reason .

Me too. I'm not in any mood to reward them with a day one purchase for pulling a last minute switch.

I wonder how this will do (Metro), since everyone I know already tried it in various methods outside of EGS and weren't impressed. And they kinda pissed some people off by complaining that some people didn't want to install EGS just to play their game.

I know I won't be buying it, anyway.
