Users Savage Warcraft III: Reforged

Hell hath no fury like a gamer scorned. As of this writing the User Score on Metacritic for Warcraft III: Reforged for PC stands at 0.5 out of ten, just a shade ahead of John Blutarsky's GPA. As noted on Screenrant, this gives Blizzard's real-time strategy remake the dubious distinction of being the lowest user-rated game in Metacritic history. It currently sports a 63 metascore based on the opinions six professional critics, but the 18,353 user reviews completely savage the new release. If you sort them by "most helpful, there is one rating of 1 on the first page of results, and the remainder are 0. According to the breakdown, there are 697 positive reviews, 158 mixed reviews, and 17,498 negative ones.

I probably mentioned this in other posts but I was a WC3 fanatic back in it's hay day (or my highschool years). Had that game installed for about 8 years straight with the disc sitting in the cd tray for probably that entire time, lol.

When this was announced, I immediately pre-ordered it with the deluxe edition or whatever tf it was called.

Now it dropped and I have to say that since being away from the original WC3 for so many years and then firing this up, most of the nostalgia wasn't even there from the get go. The menus are awkward and appear severely limited in what you can customize. They didn't even update the text when you want to change the hotkeys. It still says "beta", I mean cmon, did this even go through QA?

The graphics of the individual units, while they look good, something about them also appears off. Some units look choppy in animation and rather dull compared to what I remembered in the past. The unit portraits also look whack here and lifeless. The voice acting sounds terrible and I can't recall if it's the original or not. Sounds like they tried to update it but it's bad.

The interface is mostly intact of what WC3 was except I'm so used to SC2 unlimited unit selection that I forgot how annoying it can be to select a limited amount of units at a time. Kind of wish they updated that part at this point since now would be the time to improve on what was weak of the original WC3.

Yeah so in short, I'm probably not going to ask for a refund because who knows, maybe Blizzard actually gets their development back involved with this to fix this disaster. Kind of like when Diablo 3 dropped and all hell broke loose with the auction house and real money. However this is truly Blizzard's weakest release I think that I can remember as a game in whole. Diablo 3 was still a decent game if you removed the auction house and forgave the horrible loot drops at that time.

For once I'd say this is well justified and now I'm glad they aren't touching Diablo 2 for a remaster.

In short:

- Removed a whole bunch of crucial features
- Playermade mods now Blizzard property ( cause DOTA success story )
- Broken promises / misrepresentation
- Original game now unplayable
- You're forced to buy the new shittier version

And I did not know this. Original Warcraft III is unplayable? Obviously your referring to the Battle.net multiplayer only. But if that's true (and I'm really hoping that it's not), that's absolutely horrible. The Internet has given the modern developer permission to rape the average hard-working gamer for life, over and over again. I was going to buy this in a couple of years when the newness wore off along with some of the new price. They better fix this up really fast if it's even possible or there will be no sale at all.

The took the old installer down and they really need to put it back. However the old game is completely playable. I tried to clarify this. Do not make my mistake! These people are rabid.

What I don’t get is, they get so mad at Blizzard all the time but they apparently keep buying their games. I checked out after StarCraft II was done (as did most of the company it would seem). The current fan base is odd and masochistic. I am going to need to stock up on popcorn if they ever put that phone game out.

Okay, I hadn't even noticed that part previously. If accurate that makes this even worse than I thought it was. Is that only referring to online play? Can I still play the game solo offline? I realize that's a small part of the game, but if they killed that too it is truly obnoxious.

Not sure, but I think it's only the multiplayer part...

Agreed. I bought the original games. I haven't played them for awhile so I don't know how much truth there is to this claim. But if it's true it's one of the most disrespectful aspects of the new release.

EDIT: It looks like you can still play your original Warcraft III games online if you only update your installed version to a specific patch version.

So, all is not lost quite yet.

It was supposedly a remaster of the entire game, with promised upgrades to basically everything. But in the end, they redid small parts of it. And there are crazy things like a 20 FPS limit on unit movement, the removal of original parts of the game. All of that would be bad enough, but then they put in this crazy EULA which says any custom made maps belong to them, entirely without any payment or appeal. If your plan was to piss off all the people who said they loved Warcraft III -- you would be hard pressed to do better than they accomplished.
