New Wizards of the Coast Studio Headed BioWare Vets

The Archetype Entertainment Website is now online, unveiling details on this new game studio formed by Wizards of the Coast (thanks Polygon). This being headed up by designer James Ohlen, whose partnership with the Dungeons Dragons and Magic: The Gathering publisher was revealed last April. James is joined by fellow BioWare veteran Chad Robertson, who will serve as General Manager. Here is the new studio's mission statement saying their first project is a sci-fi RPG:
OUR GOAL IS TO CREATE THE GREATEST STORY-DRIVEN ROLEPLAYING GAMES IN THE WORLD.
Archetype Entertainment is a game development studio in Austin, Texas led by industry veterans from BioWare and other AAA studios. Founded in 2019, Archetype is an autonomous division of Wizards of the Coast. We are assembling a world-class team to build a multi-platform roleplaying game set in a new science fiction universe.

At Archetype, we believe there will always be a place for story-driven roleplaying games that put the player at the center of an epic personal narrative with impactful choices. We are building games that represent the diversity of our audience. We also believe that game studios should empower top developers and challenge them with ambitious projects that are shaped by a strong, clearly communicated creative vision.

You can. It's call Cyberpunk 2077.
Hnnnnnngggg! I feel like the anticipation is turning my blood into some kind of mechanical nano-fluid.

I hope that's a good thing.

"Touched by EA Bioware Veterans", give me little confidence. They've been tainted by the EA-crapify-ism-fo-mo-money.

Still haven't bought an EA game since Origin store rose it's ugly head. (Other than GOG releases)

Forgotten Realms have been forgotten it seems. All I've ever wanted was a kickass MMO in Faerun. Going to Waterdeep, Skullport and Undermountain. Being a necromancer in Thay. Exploring the Underdark and the Moonsea, etc. etc. etc. WoTC's failure to capitalize on all the D&D properties for video games has left 100s of millions of dollars on the table, possibly billions. Unreal.

Same with the motherfuckers at EA. Want make some money make a new UO already.

With how good the stories were in Witcher 3.. They're going to have a huge hill to climb.

I still drive to work thinking about Olgeird Von Everec and Gaunter O'Dimm, The Bloody Baron, The Last Giant, Toussant and Detlaff and your confliction with Regis..

Jesus that games soooo good. I wish I could give it another 273 hours.

Well, I hope the new games they make will be in the same or similar to NWN style of game play. Dont need any more Turned based games and definitely no Card based games.
Haven't you noticed? A couple years ago, it was mandated that all new games *must* be turn-based card-collection roguelikes. Nothing else is permitted.

They are going to need more than 3-4 ex-employees from other studios & at least 5+ years to fill that goal,.....

So I look forward to seeing another announcement in 2025 .

Sounds vaguely promising, I'll hope for the best. It also sounds like they won't have anything finished until 2025, hopefully humanity is still around when their game is done.
