Kingpin: Reloaded Announced

3D Realms announces they are working on Kingpin: Reloaded, a remake of Kingpin: Life of Crime, Xatrix Entertainment's first-person shooter from back in 1999 (thanks Indie Retro News). Here's a Reveal Trailer, and they offer some screenshots of the updated graphics along with the following details:
In a stylized noir art deco gangland that never was, the Kingpin rules above all else with a bloody fist. When his lieutenant Nikki Blanco leaves a no-name Thug battered and broken, the upstart criminal rises from a puddle of blood, lead pipe in hand and revenge in mind.

Kingpin: Reloaded brings new life to the Quake II engine classic. 4K resolution, ultrawide support, and improved graphics in Enhanced mode enable the beautifully-depicted metropolitan nightmare shine. Controller support makes the game more accessible for anyone who wants to explore the depths of Kingpin’s depravity. Overall improvements like new quest and conversation systems make Reloaded even better than the original.

Stalk lamp-lit streets and take down rival gangs to let the Kingpin know his end is nigh. Kingpin’s immersive sim elements allow the Thug to recruit other gangsters with a conversation system. Increase the Thug’s influence through multiple hub-based missions. Run with the gang on a violent warpath with upgradeable weapons including Tommy guns, bazookas, and more. Location-based damage leads to bloody, thrilling battles: kneecap, maim, or go for the head.

If that sounds too extreme, try No Violence mode. However, the “colorful” language proudly used by Kingpin’s gangsters remains. Lean even further into that era and start fragging in Gang Bang mode’s old-school multiplayer.

Got this on disc still. Was awesome back in the day.

Definitely will pick this up just for nostalgic reasons if anything. It was hard as hell though, lol. You took too much damage from shots if I remember. It was all fun when it was just pipe busting.

Wow. Haven't given this game any thought for years.
It was a blast to play both single and online.
Back in the day the wowzers considered anyone who played it was destined to become the devil. LOL!

One of the most fun deathmatching MP games I ever played.

Just so long as they keep the in-match taunts in place.....

Holy crap! One of my favorite all time FPS games. The single player was great (and HARD!), but what I really enjoyed was the multiplayer.

It was way ahead of it's time. You could uniquely customize your character so no one looked the same when you played a match.

It had so many cool game modes that were criminal variants of classic modes. One of them, as I remember, was a CTF variant where both teams had to collect money that was falling from the sky in the center of the map, and bring it back to your gang's safe. If someone was killed while carrying money, they dropped it, and anyone else could pick it up. So you had to have people grabbing money, and people escorting them. However you also needed someone to guard your safe because the opposing team could get into your gang's hideout and steal money from the safe.

The weapons were great. The best implementation of a flamethrower in multiplayer EVER!

a little surprising since kingpin from GOG actually runs perfectly fine.

there's still an active community at kingpin.info cranking out new map packs and hosting weekly CTF/DM games, usually a pretty good turnout too.

In the video they show what looked like a PC big box, hopefully that's the case b/c I definitely want a big box version.
i was interested too but the bastards are just teasing, the official website says "Digital Product Only".

I remember when this game first came out, how awesome the graphics were.

OMG HELL YES!!!! One of my favorite shooters here. I bought this the day it came out, I believe at CompUSA. Too bad I don't have the original box any more, but I do have the CD (not sure about the manual). I also rebought it digitally on GoG.

In the video they show what looked like a PC big box, hopefully that's the case b/c I definitely want a big box version. Plus I'll be picking it up on Switch and Xbox One (hell maybe PS4 as well).

I remember a long time ago a sequel was going to happen but it was cancelled. Too bad.

Since Kingpin used a slightly modified Quake 2 engine, it would be awesome if they integrated Quake 2 RTX features. A path traced Kingpin would make me shit my pants. lol

This and Requiem: Avenging Angel both came out around the same time, I didn't really have a lot of love for either of them.

No mention of RTX lighting?
Textures don't look upgraded AT ALL?
No VR mode?

This is a very low effort 'Enhanced'.

I ain't got you a dolla, hard pass, motherf**ker.

This was one of my favorite single player shooters. Relieving it once with a facelift of sorts actually sounds kinda cool. I am, in general, pretty cool with these minor upgrade re-releases provided they don't try to charge a stupid amount.

"Vinnie, you F***!"

This game had the hardest mode ever, and I've started Icewind Dale II on Heart of Fury using two level 1 characters.

It was called real mode, and you died in 1 or 2 bullets. Toughed it out but couldn't get too far without enough bullets.

I had forgotten about Kingpin. I played it online a lot. Trailer didn't mention multiplayer. Never mind, it says it has multiplayer. Probably won't be that great without mods though.
I pwnz j00!
