We have important news regarding Cyberpunk 2077's release date we'd like to share with you today.
Cyberpunk 2077 won't make the April release window and we're moving the launch date to September 17, 2020.
We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there's still work to be done. Night City is massive — full of stories, content and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us precious months we need to make the game perfect.
Expect more regular updates on progress as we get closer to the new release date.
We're really looking forward to seeing you in Night City, thank you for your ongoing support.

I remember being in my teens, when a delay would crush me.
Now, not only do I figure it's a good thing, but I probably wouldn't get around to playing the game for a year, anyway, so it's nothing to me. Perspective, haha.

Stupid is taking a response out of the context of what it's responding to. It was said they have no plans whatsoever to support the next-gen hardware based on one little snippet of this announcement, and I said that's jumping to conclusions. Assuming the delay is to align with the launch of said hardware is a similar leap.
Actually, fair enough. I suppose my response was more intended for McTurbo. You are correct, the comment you were responding to did make it sound like they have no intention of releasing on next-gen hardware. Apologies.

Is placing your own emphasis on a word in that phrase your only evidence? Bit of a leap, there.
So, let me get this straight. You conspiracy theorists think they're delaying this game to September so that it can launch on next-gen consoles that won't yet be released?
Straight up stupid, there.

It'd probably take longer than that to rebuild and upscale it, plus the new Xbox is very specific about being backwards compatible so there's no true software difference, plus it would be a much smaller install base even if consoles have launched - games often release first on the old, then on the new.

Also, the new platforms are expected to release on the holiday season, after the new launch date.

I wasn't even aware that there was an April "release" date window, but seriously is there a developer on this planet who has actually ever hit these?
