Tencent Invests in Platinum

Platinum Games announces they are entering into a limited partnership with Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings. Here's word from Platinum's President and CEO Kenichi Sato on what this means to this Japanese developer of Bayonetta and Nier: Automata:
We would like to announce we have received a capital investment from Tencent Holdings Limited as a basis for partnership. This partnership has no effect on the independence of our company, and we will continue operations under our current corporate structure.

We hope to use this capital to strengthen our foundation as a business and expand from game development into exploring self-publishing. We also hope that this partnership can give us a wider global perspective, while still creating high quality games that stay true to our name.

Thank you as always for your continued support. Please look forward to what we have in store.

Anytime Tencent is involved in any investment, means you just sold your soul.

It is much wiser to sell your soul to US investment groups and hedge funds!

If you sell out, you sell out.

Yeah, imperfect Democracy vs Authoritarian dictatorship. All the same, sure.
Corporate Oligarcy vs Authoritarian system. The US isn't really a democracy any longer.

"The central point that emerges from our research is that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on US government policy, while mass-based interest groups and average citizens have little or no independent influence."

I mean, sure, we elect our leaders (although the person with the most votes doesn't necessarily ascend to power), but those leaders don't do the peoples' bidding. They do corporate bidding.

Though it might be just lip service to those at the top, we do still have the rule of law. But as this thread indicates, people really don’t care either way it seems.

Exactly. Getting screwed by "presumably good guys" is not much different from getting screwed by "presumably bad guys" - it is all about getting screwed by one group or the other, so you try to get screwed by those offering moah of that sweet sweet moneh!

At least they didn't sell out to EA Games, because if they did, they'd be shut down within two years.
