Linux Battlefield V Bans

A thread on the Lutris Forums has some users reporting they're now banned from playing Battlefield V via DXVK (thanks Slashdot via Ant). Lutris is a game manager for Linux-based systems and DXVK is a Vulkan-based translation layer to allow Direct3D programs to run under Linux via Wine. This sounds similar to past incidents, including one from a couple of years ago where Blizzard was banning players using DXVK to play Overwatch using Linux. At that time the affected players were reinstating after Blizzard investigated. In this case, however, it seems Electronic Arts is not backing off. There's a post from almost two weeks ago that reports getting the following reply after an appeal:
Hello,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the action that was taken on your account.

The action pertains to the following violation:

Promote, encourage or take part in any activity involving hacking, cracking, phishing, taking advantage of exploits or cheats and/or distribution of counterfeit software and/or virtual currency/items

After thoroughly investigating your account and concern, we found that your account was actioned correctly and will not remove this sanction from your account.

Thank you,

PS4 gamers are not playing the Windows edition of the game on Linux, thus having anything to do with this discussion and frankly you're really stretching the definition of "linux gamer" there Gumby. I'm not sure you really want to hold up Sony as a champion of open source either, they have a habit of using what they want and building an entirely closed platform around the rest. But you go ahead and claim ownership of all the console gamers if it makes you feel better. Regardless Linux gamers represent a 2-3% marketshare on the PC and EA is going to be EA.
