Out of the Blue

Happy New Year! And Happy New Decade, for that matter. Yup, it is now officially 2020, though I'm sure I'll still be writing the year of the crazy on my checks for weeks to come. We had a nice time at our neighbor's New Year's Eve bash, though, speaking of crazy, it got a little nutty around midnight when noisemakers were handed out to the extraordinary number of children who were in attendance. We're dogsitting for Jedi the Jindo while his family is out of town, and he got a little freaked out by the cacophony of horns that erupted. But it was still fun ringing in the new year, and a good time was had by all. Here's hoping everyone's plans worked out equally well, and that any hangovers being suffered are manageable. And here's to a great 2020!

2020 (MMXX) is the current year, and is a leap year starting on Wednesday of the Gregorian calendar, the 2020th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 20th year of the 3rd millennium, the 20th year of the 21st century, and the 1st year of the 2020s decade.
Right, and you can't make the same adjustment for centuries or millenniums since there is no year "0" -- as I said, it is all the Romans fault.

It was the first time I had been inebriated in more than two decades. Given that Mrs. B and I generally treat NYE as a low key affair, we figured we'd ring in the new/not-new/whogivesashit decade jubilantly.

I appreciate the suggestions from y'all about Gatorade/Powerade/Sports drinks but those have way too much sugar for me, I had none on hand, and I was in absolutely no condition to drive at any rate. Lemon water and the oxygen helped clear it up in about two hours.

Thing I learned today, it ain't a new decade, that starts 1st January 2021 because of how borked our calendar system

I believe that's just how centuries and millennia are measured, since you are counting starting at 1 CE/AD, so each new century begins every 100 years, as in 101 and 201 and each new millennium begins every thousand years, as in 1001 and 2001. But decades are not counting how many years since anything, they are simply delineations of 10 year periods... It's right there in what we say: The 60s were 1960-1969, not 1961-1970.

So welcome to the first year of the decade of the 20s, which is the 20th year of both the 21st century and the third millennium.

That pizza article is sort of sillly and doesn't make sense from a practical point of view.

Who has 18" pizzas and usually has 2 medium deals as well?
Places like Dominos, Pizza Hut..etc...have 12" which is medium and 14" which is large. Sometimes the pizza chains have Extra Large which is 16" at most.
2 Mediums is 226.2, while a single large (14") is 153.

It is all the Romans fault, if they had created/made/had a year 0 everything would be good.

2020....pshaw. I'm in the year 5780.

Side note: do you realize just how much it sucks being still slightly drunk and yet also wickedly hungover?

If you'll excuse me, I am going to go put on an oxygen mask, start a saline drip in to my vein, and pray for death to come swiftly.

Drink sports drink. It replaces both lost fluid and electrolytes.

Brawndo, it's got what plants crave. I agree with that sentiment. I always used to have Gatorade on hand for the next day after a night of boozing. Find it always helped better than anything else. Course you could just make some Kool-aid and dump some salt it in too.

It has the brominated vegetable oil and coloring ingredients your body craves.
The best cure for a hangover and it's guaranteed to work is to abstain. My headache today has nothing to do with alcohol and that's the way I like it. Other advantages of not drinking include you can get behind the wheel of an automobile, your body does not have to spend energy processing poison, your liver will love you and a few meelion more.
