Out of the Blue

Happy New Year's Eve Eve! Well that was a pretty wild conclusion to the NFL regular season, culminating in an amazing 49ers/Seahawks battle. The Giants have already fired Pat Shurmur from their head coaching position, so things are looking up for the team already. Here's hoping they land Josh McDaniels, because I think his time is now. Congrats to Svezz for winning our straight picks Pigskin Pick'em Pool by picking an impressive 166 winners. I had 157 myself, good for a tie for 12th place. As for the smaller point-spread Pigskin Pick'em Pool, hats off to Kharbon for coming out on top after picking 134 winners against the point spread this season. My 126 landed me in 6th place there. I will post info for the playoff pool this week, so we can do battle in the postseason. To the winners, enjoy your bragging rights, and please don't spend them all in one place.

That probably would have been the more tasteful digital resurrection...

any chance we could do a money league next year? straight pick-em money league. $5 buy in, let's say top 5 pay out? with the amount of players we get, it'd be a nice chunk.
I bailed early this season for no reason that really matters. But I did fully participate in several previous seasons. I have no interest in making it a money league, even if legal issues were addressed.

I ended up mostly bailing this time after thinking I had my picks in for a week, and not. I was doing quite well before that too. Sort of killed my interest. Making it a money league (even a trivial amount) would probably prevent issues like that. That said, yeah, I really wouldn't want it to become a buy-in league either.

I'd be shocked if the Giants land McDaniels. He's been dodging other HC interviews and jobs for the last couple of seasons. My speculation: he's got the keys from Kraft. When Belicheck retires, McDaniels will slide in as the next head coach in NE.

Depending on the location of the players, that could be considered wildly illegal and get Blue in trouble for hosting an illegal gambling site.

Huh. Well... the scientist article started out interesting... Then a few sentences stood out:

' a secret trial in China' ...Because thats not ominous at all.
'The team was convicted of "illegal medical practice"' As opposed to... what.. the organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners?

I get that the scientist effectively lied on a few things to get his experiments going. Not disputing that.

Blue, I'm not too sure about Josh McDaniels after what he pulled on the Colts a couple seasons ago. He not only backed out on the Colts head coaching job after accepting the job, he backed out on the offensive and defensive coordinators who quit their jobs to come to the Colts. The Colts and eventual head coach Frank Reich were good enough to keep both of them on, but definitely didn't have to. Good 'ol Josh sited not wanting to have to move his family as one of the main reasons for going back on his word. Isn't that one of the main down-sides to being an NFL coach making millions of dollars? He sure didn't seem to give a shit about those two coordinators.

Plus, when he was the HC of the Bronco's, they were caught videotaping a 49er's walk-through. It was probably nothing but who knows.

He'll probably end up being a good head coach, but so far, I'm not a fan. Hopefully he's learned from his mistakes.

Yep, congrats to both Svezz and Kharbon.

If you bet the same amount on every NFL game against the spread, you'd have to pick 128 games correctly to break even. Sports betting isn't legal in Washington State (yet) so I have yet to risk anything other than pride on my picks. I did bet on a couple games the one time I was in Vegas, and did poorly.

Back in the early 80's I was a Pipefitter apprentice working on building a nuclear plant, and one of the foremen there had a side hustle going on as a bookie. The 7-0 Washington Huskies were ranked 2nd in the nation and they were playing at home against the 4-3 Stanford Cardinal, and the Huskies were only favored by 6 points. Easy money, right? So I put down $250 (again, in 1982)... and that's when I first started hating John Elway! And it's also when I decided sports betting wasn't for me.

The Irishman De-Aging: Netflix Millions VS. Free Software.

The de-aging while watching The Irishman really bothered me. It looked like the actors had too much makeup caked on or something. It was really distracting, and yeah, they didn't look their ages: they all looked 60s, not 40s. I assume that was an intentional choice for some reason.

As for this video, the deep fake makes the characters look closer to their ages they're supposed to be, but it looks a bit plasticky compared to the Netflix version.

Also, Joe Pesci deserves an Oscar.

The Raiders ended their last game as the OAKLAND Raiders by going for it all on the last play of the game. It sucks that they didn't make it, but that is exactly what Al Davis would have done. Hopefully they can get off to a stable start in Vegas next year.

The 49ers got spectacularly lucky at the very end there, but they pulled the win. What a game! That first round bye is huge for a injury nagged defense like the 49ers have right now. I have been one of the cynical fans all year but it's getting harder to continue looking at this team as overachieving. I still think the Packers or the Saints are going to take the NFC but as a Niner fan its nice to be in the discussion.

Ugh, dropped from 4 to 9 yesterday. Much as I hate the Seahawks I wish they would have won it yesterday. Speaking of firings, I wonder if Jerry is gonna' clear house at Casa de Cowboy?

Anyway, playoff time! GO PACKERS!
