Such as disabling your firewall and adding commands to the launcher shortcut before running it, that kinda thing? I don't know, maybe google just likes you more than me today, but nothing that's been proposed as a fix worked for me.

It's pretty funny, I just want a new game to play and the survival update to World War Z ticks all the boxes, but I literally... cannot... buy... it.

It appears to be a rare bug or the internet would have gone full thermo nuclear mode by now.
You might try something like revouninstaller and use it to nuke every folder, registry entry and every bit of leftover detritus after uninstalling.
