Epic Games Store Wishlist and Review Plans

Epic offers an EGS End of Year Development Update with a progress report on the Epic Games Store (thanks Wccftech). In addition to a look at recently added or improved features like coupons; an improved Library view; and performance optimizations, they outline future plans for critic reviews and wishlists:
Critic Reviews
We’ve completed backend integrations and component development for including critic reviews on product pages--and these are currently in testing - we’ll update you when this feature is live.

Wishlist
We’re working to bring Wishlist to the store. You’ll be able to wishlist any offer on the store and you’ll be notified of sales or promotions for that offer. This has been previously listed as work-in-progress development, but is requiring more work than originally planned. We’ll keep you up to date as we move the Wishlist feature along.

Yes, I would switch to GOG very quickly if they ever did after that. They haven't as far as I know. There's still an understanding people own the games they purchase, even running through Steam's DRM.

Having seen more posts from you since, I think you meant you would start buying predominantly more from GOG. At the time though I remember thinking your statement meant you hadn't touched GOG at all yet.

Edit
Went to claim it but it was auto-claimed and added to my account when I snagged their last freebie. What a horrible store feature /s wink Allthumbsup

While a wishlist would be nice, I think I care more about forums for tech support questions on games than reviews. Still lacking a shopping cart for a digital retail store sort of says it all in terms of sloppiness or rush job to get into the market while the fortnite iron is hot.

Do note that the $10 coupon is back for their sale and that it lasts until May 1st 2020. So, click that claim button to save the coupon for the next 5 months.

It looks like I will be getting Satisfactory (the alpha has been hilariously closed yet still works for SP for 9 months now) as its on sale for effectively $17 and maybe MW5. Probably wait on that one though. The devs there really have been sleazy. Game looks decent enough and fun co-op. Part of that is just the pent up demand for a good Mechwarrior game that isn't MWO.

To the two devs of RGO and GAO, cya next year on steam or preferably GoG. If I remember and the prices are about 50% off launch MSRP. Borderlands should be interesting when it hits steam, price wise and popularity. It seems to have died in terms of online attention early on. To me it was always wait for the gold edition with the dlc on sale though.

Wish-List: Go DRM Launcher free like GOG and I'll start buying stuff from you.

This is already in. You can play many EGS games without even launching the Epic client (the Ubi games require uPlay, of course). Recent example: MW5 Mercenaries can easily be launched from just clicking the *exe. No need to run the client at all.

Errr no. Most games require the launcher to function. I just tested 9 different games and all popped up with a "You need to launch this program from the Epic Games Store" warning and then refused to load. You might find the odd one that does not have any bootstrap requirement but it will be the exception, not the rule. Just like on Steam. And just like Steam you can technically load the games then exit the launcher.

**back to EPIC games store comments **

EGS still is the suck as far as features go.....I can't get anything for friends or family ( yes there is actually 1 or 2 things I would ) ..no gifting .

NO wishlist or save to cart ...

I always try to buy through GOG.com whenever possible., but EGS is still losing money by not having even these simple features implemented yet..( especially during CHristmas times )..

Still no shopping cart, still no ability to gift games, still only has cloud save functionality for a few games and it's unreliable at best, no achievements, no any other number of things after a year of release and the bottomless pit of money Epic has.

Meanwhile, Steam recently released a feature that lets you play any local multiplayer game online with near zero input lag and only requires one person to own the game you're playing. And GOG is about to release one of the best unified launcher applications ever written.

But please Epic Defence Force, tell me again how Epic is better for consumers.

Uh-huh... so, massive twisting, flipping and backpedaling as always when you are caught lying with your pants down below your ankles. Gotcha.

Everyone knows those "facts". Of course Fortnite income helped Epic expanding their business and kickstarting their storefront.
That's not what you said though. You said "everything hinges on Fortnite's success", i.e. according to you, Epic's existence as a company depends on Fortnite. Which is asinine bullshit and a *removed* lie. I won't be careful using "retarded" in the context of people spreading extreme lies full of bullshit. Nice try tho...

Parker, you need to slow down and stop throwing kanipshin fits. This thread is about the Epic Games Store. The sentence you quoted even mentions "enter the market." I'm clearly not referring to Epic's entrance into the video games engine market or selling their video games (they've been doing that for decades). My original paragraph, the one you didn't bother to quote in its entirety, clearly makes the point that the word "everything" refers to the Epic Games Store, not the company itself.

For the sake of clarity and context, here's the post in its entirety.

"EGS is nothing more than a glorified browser app (built upon Chromium). The "Lighthouse Audit" on the website provides proof. Lighthouse is Google's open-source tool for auditing and improving the quality of WEBPAGES (I use it almost every day). Unlike Steam, EGS is a website running in a proprietary web browser. That's why it's taking them so long to add features. They're trying to "bolt-on" features to the chromium framework not designed to function like Steam. This is all a result of their irresponsible idea to repurpose the Paragon launcher instead of building one from scratch. And the reason they did that is they didn't want to wait to enter the market because everything hinges on Fortnite's success."

If you are somehow still unable to understand, then let me break my comment down even further, literally going backwards up to the subject.

1. "And the reason they did that is they didn't want to wait to enter the market because everything hinges on Fortnite's success."
2. that = "This is all a result of their irresponsible idea to repurpose the Paragon launcher instead of building one from scratch."
3. This = "They're trying to "bolt-on" features to the chromium framework not designed to function like Steam."
4. "bolt-on" features = "That's why it's taking them so long to add features."
5. That's why = "Unlike Steam, EGS is a website running in a proprietary web browser."
6. EGS is a website = "Lighthouse is Google's open-source tool for auditing and improving the quality of WEBPAGES (I use it almost every day)."
7. Lighthouse = "The "Lighthouse Audit" on the website provides proof."
8. proof = "EGS is nothing more than a glorified browser app (built upon Chromium)."

"everything" equals "EGS." Simple.

You have now called me a liar a second time based on your shoddy interpretation of my comment. I'm not asking for apology. Only that you stop.

So, how many more times are you going to repeat that retarded lie? Epic as a very successful company has existed for 27 years. Fortnite came out in 2017. "Everything hinges on Fortnite's success". Yuuuup. Makes sense.

Before Fortnite, Epic attained its primary income from Unreal engine licensing fees. It remains one of the most successful gaming engines but only for around a billion annually. So along with game sales, Epic for most of its life past 2000 ever only brought in slightly over a billion dollars annually.

Fortnite comes along and suddenly makes them much more. Today, Fortnite is a 2.5 billion annual business, by itself. Between their engine, games, and Fortnite (yes, a class by itself), Epic's combined war chest is somewhere in the vicinity of 3.5 billion. The Epic Games Store is only possible because of Fortnite's success. That's a fact. Epic would not have been on competing terms with Valve with a billion. It's a lot, but it's not compete-with-Valve enough, and especially not if they wanted to do third-party exclusives.

Be careful how you use "*removed*."

I'm slowly moving in that directly. In the past week I purchased five games from GOG that was otherwise on my Steam Wishlist. Galaxy really helped me make that decision.

Nice! I remember you making a comment that you would easily take a game on Steam over GOG if they were on both.

I don't remember writing that. If memory serves, I think I wrote something along the lines of a typical review of pc gaming where if people have a choice between Steam or EGS, most would chose Steam for its robust features.

That said, if you do find where I did wrote a "Steam vs GOG" comment, please provide the quote and link. Thanks.

GOG's the only platform where I feel like I actually own what I buy. Not that I have a huge problem with any other launchers, but it's just a nice little bonus warm-and-fuzzy feeling to my purchase. I started waiting on games released on Steam if I felt they had a shot and ending up on GoG in a reasonable amount of time since I caught myself rebuying games I already owned on Steam in the early GoG days.
GoG is nice for putting games on the kids' laptops without needing to have them logged into my Steam account.
