Game Awards Nominees

With the Game Awards 2019 to be handed out on December 12th, the official website for the show now lists all the nominees, offering the chance to cast your own vote for your choices. These awards are an annual love-fest for Hideo Kojima when he doesn't have a new game, so with Death Stranding up for nine awards, this should be turned up to 11 this year. Fairly anemic list of candidates to choose from....

And I also hope CONTROL wins in a few spots, it was a pretty interesting narrative / so unique -- even if most of the gameplay wasn't much more than shooting gallery & physics destruction fest.
I still had alot of fun playing it. Rifle

Death Stranding JUST came out and so far reviews seem to be middling. Seems suspicious it's up for Game of the Year.
What's suspicious about it?

This is one of the most pathetic GOTY lists I've ever seen. The fact my crew still plays PUBG for squad nights because there is nothing better means 2019 is a sad year for gaming.

Here's to hoping 2020 improves things with games like Elden Ring, The Last of Us 2, Doom Eternal, Cyberpunk 2077, etc.

I enjoy that a few people on this site that complain that the Oscars don't pay enough attention to popular movies are here complaining that this awards show pays too much attention to popular games.

I wonder if they make similar complaints about the MTV Movie Awards, or Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards, which this basically is. A game that sold 100,000 copies will never win a popularity contest voted by players against a game that sold 10,000,000 copies. Not enough people played it to vote for it. So yes, marketing budgets come into play.

I hope Control wins at least in the Action/Adventure category. That was a suprisingly refreshing game in its story and presentation.

This reads more like a list of which games had the highest marketing budget than anything else. How the hell is a literal walking simulator like Death Stranding even included? It may be art, but calling it a game is straining the definition beyond meaning..

Including the host of the awards show as an NPC in your game is starting to look like a pretty genius move, no?

I see ffxiv is nominated in three categories. If I wasn't so lazy I'd register and give it my vote in all three. Superb game once you get past the vanilla content

Can we please change the name of this to The Game Payola Awards?

Agreed, but at least they did get nominated in a bunch of categories including best RPG, best indie game and best "fresh" indie game (not sure what the difference is... but hey, they deserve the recognition for that game.

Then you haven't been paying attention. Sekiro is by FromSoftware (Makers of Dark Souls series) and came out on PC in march. Control came out on PC in august. Resident Evil 2 remake came out on PC in January.

The only game on the list that wasn't released on PC this year is Super Smash Bros. Everything in the action section except Astral Chain is on PC. Everything in the action/adventure section is on PC except the Zelda one. Note it's all the Nintendo games that aren't available on PC.
