The problem with Bill's logic is that unlike Google, which made Android open source and thus adopted by everyone, MS would have tried to sell its OS. That would have limited its reach, and they still would have lost to Android. MS didn't have the come to Jesus moment with open source until after Android proved open source could thrive.
That said, my wife had a Windows phone, and it was awesome. The mobile windows OS is actually really cool.
