Exactly. Value is relative. Every game I look at it gets assigned a dollar value I'm willing to pay for it because that's what it's worth is to me. If it doesn't eventually come down to that price point than it's no sale. So rather than make some money - and the key factor is we're talking about a virtual product here - they'd rather make nothing. That's the height of stupidity. Even a million sales at a $1 on Steam is still $700,000 in their pocket.

I have to wonder if Valve recommended to devs/publishers to limit their discount amounts, or if the industry decided collectively to forgo 75%/90% discounts.

I'm pretty sure it's the latter. Valve WANTS people to sell a game for $5, because they have data showing that the substantially lower price is MORE than made up for by the enormous volume of units that it shifts.

However, the retards that make up the gaming industry publishers have decided that offering games that cheap "Permanently devalues" them, so they now keep them at 20 bucks or above for years and years.

Because apparently not devaluing (devaluating?) something and making less money is better than devaluing it and making more money. It takes a lot of business acumen to work in games publishing. Rolleyes

7 Days to Die for $8+ is a steal. The latest update put it in the best state it's ever been gameplay-wise, though they're still ironing out some performance issues.

Xactly. And it's literally redundant. I mean check out the current Fanatical Halloween sale. Almost(!) every single game on Fanatical is cheaper than the corresponding Steam deal and you can shave off an extra 6.66% with a code for even MOAR cheapskating.

Prey is a best seller @ $14.99. I'm in the middle of it now and loving it, so it's well worth that price, except that I bought it for $5.99, the price it sat at for most of July.

I absolutley loved that game! I sneaked my way through it, only occassionally having to kill something. This was a spiritual System Shock sequel in my opinion, and it worked GREAT.

I picked up Devil Daggers for $2.49. Selling Steam trading cards has its perks!

Most other titles see very limited discounts. Witcher 3 is at 70% off, but GOG has been offering that discount for most of the year now. Most other titles I see offer between 15% and 40% off. I have to wonder if Valve recommended to devs/publishers to limit their discount amounts, or if the industry decided collectively to forgo 75%/90% discounts.

I want to pick up PC Building Simulator, but it's only 33% off...

if anything, digital game sales like these have only trained me to buy things when they're severely price reduced.

Boring, pointless sale. With sales all year around as well as sales on Fanatical, GMG, CDKeys.com etc. this is redundant as fuck.

Indeed. I remember like 9 years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night to check new temp discounts. Back then, a game like Shadow of the Tomb Raider would be on sale for like 8 bucks instead of 20 what it is now. This is pathetic.

I picked up the Resident 1 remaster since I've always wanted to try it out, never was able to play its earlier iterations.
