Playing for the Planet

Playing for the Planet is a U.N. initiative that's driving some of the recent headlines about game companies working towards greater environmental responsibility. Here the overview:
How can the fastest growing media platform in the world be harnessed to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals and the urgent global needs they represent? We’ve summarized recent relevant developments in the video games sector, perspectives from over 50 thought leaders from the industry, and extracted seven recommendations to provoke new thinking, new collaborations, new games and real-world impact. This assessment presents a vision of how the video game industry, gamers, parents, policymakers and UN Environment can together ‘Play for the Planet’.

Yes, the earth is warming, but the silly sky is falling nonsense has no basis in fact.

No the sky isn't falling but the earth is going down the drain really fucking fast. Many suspect we've already moved beyond the tipping point and are at the start of the next extinction level event, meaning it's already too late. This isn't a drop off a cliff, but a long slide into extinction that picks up speed as it goes. Ecosystems are collapsing. Keystone species are disappearing. We're running out of fresh water, top soil, arable land. Population is exploding and everyone demands more, more, more. It's completely unsustainable - and has been for several decades now. Yeah, there's an agenda, the 'Hey I live on this planet too and it would be really nice if it didn't go to Hell in a handbasket in the next couple of decades which is exactly where it's going' agenda.

We can't save the planet, we can't save Earth, we can't save life on Earth - we can only save ourselves! The truth is: MANKIND IS NOT THIS PLANET! And the thought that Mankind = Earth actually led to the disaster we should be trying to fix (but ultimately won't) if we want to survive for a bit longer as an animal species.

This planet itself has even survived a collision with a protoplanet billions of years ago, life on Earth has survived the impact of huge asteroids (it got hit by more than just the one that led to the extinction of most dinosaurs) and the eruption of incredibly massive super volcanoes and it will survive us, too. Once a planet is "infected" with life, it is there to stay. Even close to black smokers in the deep sea which we believed to be absolutely dead areas for decades, there is life. Extremophiles live there and enjoy being close to a place resembling hell on Earth.

So - Earth, this planet, has no problem. We are just a temporarily dominant species and will go the way of the Dodo one day with most likely one huge difference: we made ourselves extinct. But life and evolution will move on, we are not this important, really.

Also I got to say that I think Greta Thunburg has psychological problems. And I don't trust people who just come to blame, blame, blame, but refuse to get called out on their accusations and refuse discussions. This girl is definitely NOT the new Jesus.

Most people understand that the phrase "Save The Planet" means to keep it habitable in the way that we like it. Most people also understand that "mankind" and "the planet" are NOT actually the exact same thing. And even Fox News knows to apologize for implying that this child has mental issues.

She's a kid. That's literally all there is to whatever "psychological issues" she may have.

I'm more worried about YOUR mental state based on this post.

I kind of have mixed emotions about this. I am very conscious of the environment and realize we are heating up the planet, but the methods some are using to push their agenda is disgusting. Almost as bad as the people resisting the problem. Really sad when both sides are screaming the other one is ignoring science when they both are.

So for my part I joined a group that plants trees. The sad thing is there are a lot of people who don't want them, especially the farmers.

How are both sides ignoring the science when the science side is screaming at the denier idiots for listening to propaganda from big oil/polluters and not real science. People yell when they feel other people aren't listening to them and what they're trying to get across is important.

What do you mean farmers don't want trees. Any good farm worth its salt will have a windbreak of trees around its fields. They prevent topsoil erosion and protect crops. Also what sort of trees are you planting in that case? They'd need to be evergreen. Plus you should be planting fruit and nut trees to help feed people and wildlife. We don't need anymore decoration trees in the world.

It is called evolution and is an ongoing process. It happened before and will happen again. It is what life is all about - it is about change, evolution, not staying forever with one dominant animal species.

We have a huge "both sides are bad" issue in this country these days. I kind of blame Twitter. One idiot with 5 followers can say something ridiculous on Twitter, Fox News or Breitbart can make a lengthy article saying everyone on that side is a lunatic like Mr. 5 Followers, and now both sides are bad and the "smart" thing to do is ignore both and keep the status quo.

This is high up on the WTF posts list.

"I'm very conscious of the environment"? Yet "Both sides" ignore science?? In a tree planting group, but then trespasses on farmland to plant trees??? (yeah, farmers don't like idiots)
