The Bard’s Tale IV: Director's Cut Released

The Bard’s Tale IV: Director's Cut is now available, offering a new version of inXile's RPG based on user feedback. Those who already own the game will receive all the improvements in this edition in a free patch. This is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux on GOG.com and Steam, and both stores offer a bonus copy of the remastered The Bard's Tale Trilogy to all who pick this up in the first week of availability. The Director’s Cut is loaded with new features, fixes, and content, making it the truly definitive edition of The Bard’s Tale IV. Along with an Unreal Engine update that has the game looking, playing, and sounding better than ever, The Bard’s Tale IV: Director’s Cut directly addresses feedback received from the game’s initial launch with thousands of fixes and tweaks included. Those who already own the PC game will receive the Director’s Cut content and improvements as a free update.

New features of The Bard’s Tale IV: Director’s Cut include:

  • A new end-game chapter that adds hours of additional content
  • New enemies, items, and weapons, including dwarven master-crafted weapons

At least for me, I found the save system a bit annoying, no other major system complaints. I was in the middle of playing some RPGs already when it came out, and I put it on the back burner, then uninstalled it to make room for something else, figuring I'd wait for some patches.

I don't feel as though I put enough time into the vanilla version to really comment on the story or anything; looking forward to playing it after I finish Witcher 3, which I'd also been putting off for years.
