Rebel Galaxy Outlaw Launches

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is now available on the Epic Games Store, offering a space simulator for Windows that's a prequel to 2015's Rebel Galaxy (console editions are expected later this year). Developer Double Damage offers this video with help on getting started and the following details on the game:

Packed with exciting combat, unique ships, and tons of great music, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw drops you into a retro future steeped in blue-collar Americana.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is a prequel to 2015's Rebel Galaxy, this time dropping you straight into the cockpit. You'll inhabit the role of Juno Markev, an outlaw and smuggler who went straight and settled down until events conspired to drag her back into the life. After an encounter in a shady watering hole goes bad, your ship is trashed, and you find yourself in debt to an old friend and casino owner who gives you a floating garbage trick and some words of advice.

Features include:

  • A full single player story campaign. But there's plenty of room to do your own thing and make some money Ė or some mayhem. The big empty is filled with lowlifes, cops, pirates, and blue-collar folks just trying to get by.
  • Unique Autopursuit feature makes space combat accessible to everyone - play the way you want to, with game styles for novices to veterans.
  • Slap down some cash for the right ship for the job. Outfit it with a vast array of weapons, armor, and gear. Apply a custom paintjob and get flyiní.
  • Gamble for cash and equipment at the local watering hole with various side games, including: 8-ball, dice poker, slot machines and arcade games.
  • Slide into your cockpit, switch on the Subspace Radio and listen to one of 7 stations with over 21 hours of music, DJs and commercials - and full support for custom soundtracks.
  • Meet and befriend an array of sketchy characters and call them up to lend a hand when needed.
  • A variety of playstyles from generous starting gear with aim and flying assistance, to old school mode: minimal gear and no assists. Play the way you want!

The game is definitely more for casuals.

Try Evochron Legacy if one wants a great PC space adventure sim.

You forgot Shakedown Hawaii. Grin

I've asked him to give S:H a pass for purely sentimental reasons.
Then all the other games should get a pass, for senta-mental reasons of course.

Since he didn't preface the list this time with his version of MFK I can only assume he was listing games he has already purchased from the Epic Game Store.

S:H gets a special pass, because reasons.

Playing on old-school mode because with all the flight/aim assists on, it basically plays itself. First two hours were fun, though.

Metro Exodus is on Game Pass for PC, so no need for EGS for that one.

I have to admit that I have on more than one occasion cackled with glee as I blew pirates and psychopreachers out of the stars. This is deeply scratching my space shoorter itch in a way nothing else has in a long, long time.

Exclusive to 1 online store, epic store. As much as I really curious to check this out(reminds me of privateer or freelancer) I am not willing to use epic store. If it stays exclusive to only 1 store, may force hand to try something else....

Not consolitis, but for example Elite: Dangerous is amazing with a xbox controller, and the control scheme seems to simular in RGO.

Iím actually a bit sad they took away the two axis gameplay. That was a defining feature, where fights were done more like battleships, having to get your enemy beside you to really let loose most of the shipís power. Now it looks like it plays like every other space shooter ever made.

Being on EGS isnít much of a deterrent, itís the loss of its unique gameplay thatís keeping me from picking it up.

It's modern Privateer which is great. Keyboard and mouse controls are... well... not good. Not good at all. I'll try a flightstick tomorrow but I am afraid this was made for a console controller which is sad. The game is nevertheless entertaining - it is the Privateer clone I always wanted despite the controls problems.
They're waiting for you, Gabe, in the test chamber!

Is the Galaxy traversal still stuck to two axis?

Edit: I glimpsed through the video, does not appear to be. Sweet.
