Rebel Galaxy Outlaw Next Month on EGS

Double Damage Games announces an August 13th release date for Rebel Galaxy Outlaw, their sort of prequel to Rebel Galaxy. This will launch as an Epic Games Store exclusive with console releases to follow "in the coming months." This comes with a new Release Date Announcement Trailer presented by petulant alien Sandar D'Truz as well as the following details:

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is a prequel to 2015's Rebel Galaxy, this time dropping you right into the cockpit. You'll inhabit the role of Juno Markev, an outlaw and smuggler who went straight and settled down until events conspired to drag her back into the life. After an encounter in a shady watering hole goes bad, your ship is trashed, and you find yourself in debt to an old friend and casino owner who gives you a rustbucket and some words of advice. Packed with exciting combat, unique ships, and tons of great music, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw drops you into a retro future steeped in blue-collar Americana.

Features include:

  • A full single player story campaign. But there's plenty of room to do your own thing and make some money – or some mayhem. The big empty is filled with lowlifes, cops, pirates, and blue-collar folks just trying to get by.
  • Unique Autopursuit feature makes space combat accessible to everyone - play the way you want to, with game styles for novices to veterans.
  • Slap down some cash for the right ship for the job. Outfit it with a vast array of weapons, armor, and gear. Apply a custom paintjob and get flyin’.
  • Gamble for cash and equipment at the local watering hole with various side games, including: 8-ball, dice poker, slot machines and arcade games.
  • Slide into your cockpit, switch on the Subspace Radio and listen to one of 7 stations with over 21 hours of music, DJs and commercials - and full support for custom soundtracks.
  • Meet and befriend an array of sketchy characters and call them up to lend a hand when needed. Join the community before flinging yourself into the final frontier!

Complete bullshit. Every single game using Steamworks DRM is Steam exclusive.

Using SteamWorks DRM =/= Steam Exclusive, unless you are just trying to be as disingenuous as possible in your argument.

Example: Monster Hunter World GMG Sale: $27.00 Current Steam Price: $59.99

Details, details! Its still a monopoly man! Exclusivity! Well, besides being on consoles too. Both MHW and Skyrim (what isn't that game on now). Nevermind that whole price competition thing, STEAMWORKS IS DRM! Well, yes, duh. At least Epic is finally letting about 15 games/pre-orders be sold on humble.

I could have sworn the devs for RGO said it was coming out in Jan/Feb. Maybe they took the Epic cash to help smooth things out before release. Oh well. A single player game locked to a newbie store does not do it for me. I'll wait for a GoG release in 1-2 years. Hell, it may end up in a humble bundle in a year.

Meh. I'll buy it on EGS because I want to play the game. I have been following its development for a long time and am quite encouraged by what I have seen thus far.

They're all just launchers to me anyway. They all only need to do one thing in my book: launch my goddamned game. Are they successful in that? Good, great, happy Ramadan!

The Epic Store burn rate (exclusive payouts vs actual sales) will fizzle out, and all these desperate exclusives will be crawling back to Steam soon enough.

It is also worth mentioning Fortnite no longer has the consistent top stream on Twitch. They're getting hammered by Riot's LOL and TFT.

I'll admit I can't stand exclusives and will wait for this on Steam. In fact I will admit I have a problem. I have A LOT of games on Steam...so much so I haven't tried maybe 2/3 of them. Having this not appear on Steam for awhile plus trying to clear out my library means that by the time I knock out a good chunk of games, this will be on sale so I can wait. Thank you Epic for saving me money!

How many of you actually installed Epic Games Store?

I installed it way before all the faux outrage became the popular thing to do. Never been hacked, my daughter did not get pregnant and my wife hasn't left me. I did get a little too much sun the other day, not enough to peel or blister, do you think that has do to with the different color store front?
In fairness, EGS did kill your cat. Even if it was unintentional, that's a big deal.
Dude, the cat was 17 years old with kidney disease and kitty alzheimer's (had to place two peepads around the litter box). Trust me, if EGS killed him it was a blessing. Grin

In all honesty I've never had a cat, the tough West Texas feline mentioned above did exist. rip Tiger

Literally hundreds of games using Steamworks DRM are Steam exclusive so that no matter where you buy the game you are forced to tie it to your Steam account. Besides, it is still only timed exclusivity on EGS and not all out exclusivity like the consoles so your comparison does not fly at all.

...

Correct wrt to the bribing but the first part is once again complete bullshit. Steam literally has hundreds of Steamworks DRM exclusives. Get a clue. Please. Also, while Valve has certainly made more monies than Epic pre-Fortnite I would not be so sure about it last year. Valve is estimated to rake in revenue in the $4bn range but Epic allegedly made $3bn profit last year, i.e. they probably beat Valve in revenue in 2018 at least.

There's a considerable difference between Steamworks DRM and Epic's third-party exclusivity. Your failure to understand what speaks volumes to your ineptitude.

CJ_Parker wrote on Jul 18, 2019, 18:22:
Good. Voting with your wallet is definitely the way to go if you do not want to reward the exclusivity stuff. If everyone was that consequential then the publishers would stop signing these deals immediately. Unfortunately that's a pipe dream... 99% will buy the Steam version and due to the waiting time probably even at a higher price (preorders and day one) than they would have normally.

I'm not doing it to see what others think of my purchasing decisions, and I don't care what 99% of people on Steam or Epic buy. (I swear to God you better not correlate that sentence to "well, why are you criticizing EGS?" If you go there, you're certifiable.)

It is spelled "diatribes." Further, you should look up words first before misusing them.

Also, I think it proper to point out I'm not the type of person to start a discussion in a thread with this example of "academic commentary:"

Also, a friendly reminder again: Even if the simpletons still say so... it's not all Epic's fault. The publishers decide where their games get published. If they would not accept the monies and sign the deals but tell Epic to bugger off then there wouldn't be any EGS exclusivity. If the publishers would truly value their customers' freedom of platform choice they wouldn't sign these deals.

It is pure publisher greed that is enabling these deals. They pocket the money and they know exactly that 99% of y'all will buy the games anyway once they come to Steam. The real addicts will likely even buy both versions. EGS *and* later on Steam or GOG or uPlay or whatever. It's a win-win situation for the publishers if there ever was one.

If they get their marketing in order they can also keep a nice, high average sales price by selling the EGS game for $60, then relaunch a slightly enhanced version after a year for $60 on Steam. They don't even have to discount. They can keep those prices nicely high for a year+. In the meantime they pocket more per copy on every EGS sale thanks to the better cut and they have the up front exclusivity cash in the bank. Win-win-win.

For everyone complaining about EGS exclusives, and devs “selling out”, please explain how Valve buying exclusivity (hey there Portal developers that were bought up) or any other publisher who buys a development house partway through development is BETTER than temporary exclusivity?

At least with EGS exclusivity, the games have a chance of coming to other platforms later. When EA buys a company? Fat chance you’ll see their games anywhere but Origin, forever. I don’t understand how that’s somehow OK and EGS isn’t.

Valve makes more annually than Epic and yet has never had third-party exclusives on their platform, nor have they engaged in bribing another publisher not to sell on a competing platform.

Correct wrt to the bribing but the first part is once again complete bullshit. Steam literally has hundreds of Steamworks DRM exclusives. Get a clue. Please.

Of course, it's greed. That's the primary reason why I'm not going to buy those exclusives if they appear on Steam. It shows me who these publishers are. I don't reward BS business practices.

However, the fault is purely on Epic for enabling this BS in the first place.

A HUGE NOPE once again. Epic is making an offer. The publishers could say no. They could refuse. They could tell Epic to go fuck themselves and that they'd rather release on other platforms of their choice in order to serve/reach their customers better.
No one is holding a gun to anyone's head for these deals. The publishers all sign these deals voluntarily out of greed and because they know that the Steam release in a year will yield them a nice, fat 2nd wave of revenue.

Instead of focusing on making their platform as good as or better than Steam, Epic instead went the path of anti-consumer exclusives on the PC platform that up until this year never had third-party exclusives. In other words, Epic created an environment that is now on par with console hating tribalism. Instead of bringing us together with consumer choice and value, Epic has divided us. Congrats Epic! You've singlehandedly created a grand canyon sized schism.

And I thought I was doing pretty well when it comes to hyperbolic diabtribes but gratz on outperforming me big time, dude!
