Then again I'm also baffled by the unbelievable pretentiousness of modern gamer culture complaining about the need for game designers to "respect their time".

Speaking of pretentiousness

.... MY LAWN!!!!

But really, am I truly missing the point? Are video games not a diversionary activity? Unless you're pursuing a career in esports they're literally intended to waste your time - even the good ones. And there are thousands available. Why blame the creators if you chose options you don't like?

I stop plenty of games for not respecting my time. When they add fluff, things that take a long time without adding any value, it's frustrating. And a good amount of games do this.

If someone describes a game as "Metroidvania" I know right around what style of game it is..

Which is a sign of a good description.

there is BAD metroidvania that indeed disrespects gamers time ( badly thought out save points, no teleports, shitty map with no markers that indicate certain power ups are needed )

then there is GOOD metroidvania that respects them ( example Bloodstained. Lots and lots of save points, can teleport back to base with an item, and also teleport points outside boss rooms)

is that game actually good and not a weaboo sidescroller? i tend to knee-jerk ignore anime-styled games.

This is Bob Barker reminding you to help control the Canadian bartender population — have your Canadian bartenders spayed or neutered.

The term always made my eye twitch. It's kind of like people who say "lol" out loud in regular conversation. Then again Metroid was the first NES game I got back in the day as well. The modern iterations haven't really strayed from that 33 year old original either. When I played Symphony of the Night all I could think was how much it seemed to rip off Super Metroid.

I don't think this is a real movement but if it was I would actually use the word more. There is a little troll in all of us and for me upsetting people who get upset about the missuse of Roguelike brings me joy. Applying it to every game with even the tiniest tribute to Rogue mechanics is super joyful.

Plus, real world grammar is descriptive, at least in our culture and I suspect all of them really. Even if it's wrong it's right if everyone knows what you are talking about.
