They Are Billions Released

Steam News announces the release of They Are Billions on Steam, saying the Windows post-apocalyptic steampunk strategy game carries a 10% launch discount. This is set on a distant planet, reminding us that our universe contains billions and billions of stars. The game was previously in Early Access, and this trailer shows off the new campaign that's part of its official launch. Here's the pitch:
They Are Billions is a strategy game in a distant future about building and managing human colonies after a zombie apocalypse destroyed almost all of human kind. Now there are only a few thousand humans left alive that must struggle to survive under the threat of the infection. Billions of infected roam around the world in massive swarms seeking the last living human colonies.

Lead the campaign under the orders of Quintus Crane, ruler of the New Empire, and reconquer the lands devastated by the infected.

  • 48 missions with more than 60 hours of gameplay.
  • Build fortified colonies to survive in infected territories
  • Destroy the swarms of infected with the Imperial Army.
  • Make your colonies evolve with more than 90 available technologies.
  • Explore the ancient human fortresses with your Hero.
  • Discover the story behind the apocalypse... how did the pandemic start?

It's not overly complex, but one small break or weakness in your defense will quickly kill/infect large portions of most city setups. Your civilians are stupid as can be and do NOT run fast enough to not get immediately infected if you don't wall them in and defend them appropriately.

That sounds exactly like the Jerusalem scene from World War Z!

Very similar, except most of the zombies can't climb walls or jump real high, so they just bash the gates/walls down over time. Until they get sawn in half by your gatling towers, of course.

Verno is right to a certain extent, you can get RNG screwed in your map's choke points in the survival mode. I'm assuming they've tested the campaign maps and/or the campaign maps are less random? Haven't played a ton yet.

*EDIT* Just fired up the game a few minutes ago(06-19-2019), looks like there was a bit of a balance patch already. The mission durations for the Campaign have been extended, and I think total number requirements for City Population etc. have been reduced, making it overall a little easier. Maps in the campaign appear to be static as well, so less RNG bad spawn /no chokepoint games in the campaign.
