Out of the Blue

After completing our re-watch of Deadwood, we finally got to view the new Deadwood movie. It's hard to believe my own reaction, but the series itself was even better than I remember, which says a lot for what I've long considered the best show of all time. The movie probably doesn't earn that kind of lofty accolade from me, but it was still a tremendous experience. It offered some much-needed closure and a glorious chance to revisit the setting and all those beloved characters that became so fully formed over the show's 36 episodes. Hoping this project would get made was a rollercoaster of ups and downs that spanned years, and I am still shocked but extremely grateful it finally happened.

My wife and I are watching Deadwood for the first time. I mentioned to her one night that you (Blue) and others here seem to like it so we decided to watch the series and then the movie. We are currently halfway through season 2. I won't go into spoilers for people who still plan on watching it but my wife just mandated a week long break because of a tragedy that occurred on the last episode we watched. Not because it offended her, but because it was extremely emotional and she wanted a short break in case something similar happened in the next episode. Emotional and gritty and unapologetic. Shocking stuff without feeling like it's just done for shock value. Amazing production values at every level, from coffee cup removal to the actors and everything in-between. The writing is off the charts. Highly recommended to anyone who hasn't watched it, provided nudity and swearing in TV aren't an issue for you.

Thanks for not spoiling. I've watched S1E1, and have a ways to go.
