Doesn't Beamdog have the rights? Or is that just for the older games?
Just for the older games. They were only allowed to enhance the original games and to make an expansion for the first game. Everything else was off limits to them.
As for BG III, it's a solid meh. It's a boring setting, the loot is boring with its unspectacular +1 stats, most characters are kinda boring (except Boo), the level progression is usually slow and boring as fuck (yay for being level 5 after 60 hours), everything is boring about this franchise.
And what's up with yet another Baldur's Gate? Looking at video games you could arrive at the conclusion that the entire continent where D&D takes place only has two fucking cities: Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter. Dafuq?!?!
This game is also years away from a playworthy state. Larian is a GaaS dev. It will take ages from early access to the enhanced edition. Yawn. Wake me up when it's finished, "enhanced" and on sale.
Finally, here's a +1 for turn-based combat. It's much better and less messy for a party RPG. Ideally, it would be cool if they offered both options like Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire does now.
