Epic Mega Sale

The Epic Games Store fulfils recent rumors with the announcement of an Epic Mega Sale, a bit of a play on the company's original name, Epic MegaGames. They are promising bargains up to 75% off and an additional $10.00 USD discount on every game priced above $14.99. They are also doubling down on their free game every two weeks (or fortnite, as it were), to a free game every week during the sale, starting with the upcoming release of Stories Untold. This post has a FAQ to address any lingering questions this raises, saying they are actually offering refunds to match their sale prices for all games purchased between May 2nd and yesterday. Here's more:
How do I get $10 off games in the Epic Games store?
You don’t have to do anything. During the sale, all games priced $14.99 and above are an additional $10 off, courtesy of Epic.

Do I get $10 off games that are already on sale?
Yes! As long as the sale price is $14.99 and above.

How long does the Epic Mega Sale last?
The sale ends June 13, 2019.

Will I get $10 off DLC, game add-ons, season passes, or in-game purchases, including V-bucks in Fortnite?
No, the promotional offer only applies to qualifying game purchases from the Epic Games store. It does not apply to any nongame purchases such as add-ons (like DLC or season passes) or in-game purchases (such as in-game currency, like V-bucks in Fortnite, or upgrades like Save The World mode.)

I pre-purchased a game before the start of the Epic Mega Sale and that game hasn’t launched yet. Should I cancel my pre-purchase and then buy it again to take advantage of the $10 discount?
No, you don’t have to! Every player who pre-purchased an unreleased game in the Epic Games store prior to May 16th, 2019 for $14.99 and above will receive a $10 refund! You will receive your $10 refund automatically to the payment method you used in the next 7-12 days.

What if I bought a game just before the Epic Mega Sale?
For all game purchases between May 2nd, 2019 and May 15th, 2019 we will refund you the difference in price between what you paid and what you would have paid during the Epic Mega Sale (inclusive of the $10 off from Epic). You will receive your refund automatically to the payment method you used in the next 7-12 days.

If a game forcing me to use a specific client is "anti-consumer behavior" I shouldn't support then I never would have bought any Steam games.

They gotta get customers in the door. I don't like exclusivity, but if it helps them get on their feet, and they cut it out after they are established...

Exactly this.
They are going up against one of the biggest monopolies in the business.
There is no harm created by the short term exclusives and it is about the only way they can get a foot in the door.

"When a competing company goes out and builds a massive financial war chest, it's for one thing - and one thing only. Going to war in a highly competitive battleground.
In this case, the war is with Steam.
A war in which, by all accounts, they stand ZERO chance of EVER winning

This was never about beating Steam. It's about disrupting it enough to carve out a portion of a multi-billion Dollar industry. Starving Steam of content isn't going to kill it. In fact, it's akin to Disney pulling Marvel content off Netflix. They'll survive it.
But even as you ponder paying Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, DCU, CBS et al monthly subs to watch exclusive content, so too gamers are busy raging about having to install another game launcher. Because, you know, priorities and all that.
There is absolutely NOTHING unique about the Steam v EGS fiasco because that's how competition works. And no matter how many times Tim Sweeney has to go on the record outlining *precisely* what their goal is, very few care because of tribalism."

Some good sales on Steam this weekend too. Just bought ATOM RPG and Primordia.

That Atom RPG caught my interest. From the Epic sale, Operencia is something I really want, but it's not even on Steam until the exclusivity is over.

I've noticed there's always a glut of games on sale the week before a Steam sale, which I find odd. And they are usually better deals than you find during a Steam sale. I always wonder if it has something to do with contracts and minimum pricing or something.

Atom is a whole $1.50 off sale, lol. Primordia is a different story, extremely well rec'd, not typically my bag, may gift it.

If you have even a passing interest in factory games, along with a LOT of exploration, pick up Satisfactory. It’s indescribably cool.

As people have said about the woeful web page they have, no tags being a huge one. So looking at Satisfactory it doesn't list it as a Single Player or MP Game. I take it is coop from watching the movie, I see a First POV and what looks like coops moving about. But how can the developer not clearly in the description state this? I noticed this on nearly all the games at EGS, lack of details like that.

Also On Metro Exodus, I'm only seeing $35, not $28. They already got cold feet?

I do have a real problem with what they are doing, buying exclusives is different than what we've seen, this isn't old, this is a new development.

That said I take the free game every two weeks, haven't installed one yet, I just find it humorous I'm getting subsidized by Fortnite players buying virtual stuff, like the free $10's from Epic if one buys from them during the sale. Thanks Fortniter's!

My local Bodega was painted Egg Shell, when they repainted it 7 years ago they changed the color to Off White and I quit going there for several days. And now just recently they changed the exterior color to Ivory. eff those guys

As long as they don't paint it Pink or Fuchsia.

The nonsense about "Chinese ties" sounds like conspiracy crap.

The spyware claims are either demonstrably BS or not conclusive, and based on some shoddy investigations of some Reddit randos with axes to grind. There are plenty of valid reasons to criticize the Epic Games Store but spyware isn't really one of them. That said, Tencent is a major investor in Epic, make of that what you will.

Wasn't the EGS reading the Steam installation it found on a system and would read certain Steam DLLs? Or was that disproven? Or is that a feature for importing Steam friends to EGS - does EGS even have a Friend list feature yet?

Not conspiracy when tencent owns almost half the company.
1/2 or 40%, but who's counting when they're in full on whackadoodle CONSPIRACY mode?
Scary boogeyman those Chinese. They might get my steam friends list. shiver

Tim Sweeney is the controlling shareholder in Epic Games, and has been since 1991. Epic games has a number of outside investors. At only 40% Tencent is the largest. Out of all of Epic’s investors None can dictate decisions to Epic. None have access to Epic customer data.
All of Epic’s big decisions are made in the USA.

But at least they had the infrastructure in place to paint it "Egg Shell." Epic is not in any position to paint their store "Egg Shell" until they get their walls up, and have running water and power. You know, a minimum viable store.
