Like cloud saves?
Cloud saves do nada for me because I only have one gaming box. Saves from most games are easily copied should that be a deal breaker.
EGS is adding features and will continue to add features.
Competition is a good for everyone.

You don't need two machine to benefit from cloud saves, they're great for backups, especially if something happens to your files. There is even cases now with a game on EGS having it's save files become randomly corrupt, and users are Eff'd unless they randomly back up their files.
No game on the Steam platform has ever had a corrupted save because the cloud makes corruption verboten.
Let the hate flow through you.

That was a weird example since they'd probably be corrupt in the cloud as well.
But in a one-box setup, which I'm sure is the case for the majority of us, if you reformat your hard drive or get a new one you have to remember to back up save files or go retrieve them later if the drive is still around. Don't need to worry about that with the cloud saves. I never remember to back up my save files, and they're really not that important to occupy that space in my mind... But I'm always happy on a new machine or drive when I play a game and find that the saves were in the cloud all along.

It's hard to argue with publishers shunning Steam when it leads to crazy numbers like this.

They sold ten times as many copies of Division 2 on Uplay as they did Division 1. That's a lot of money left in their own pocket, and the PC was the only platform in the past year that (substantially) increased its share for Ubisoft.

God, who knows, maybe someday we'll get genuine PC versions again, instead of console po... hahahahahaha I can't even finish that sentence.

I think you missed the point that most of the sales originally came from Steam with D1. When they shunned Steam and went Exclusive to Epic and their own portal. Then its not hard to see the increased sales. Most shied away from Epic in favor of UBIs portal.

No, I didn't miss the point, that is LITERALLY the point. They sold TEN TIMES more on their own store when they shunned Steam. So that's ten times 30% money they keep in their own pocket.

Why wouldn't they do this?

The sold more of a sequel of a very popular franchise that also sold well the first time, what a shock! This really doesn't say what you think it says.

Just because they sold 10x more on Uplay says nothing of the impact of the game not being offered on Steam. Being on Steam gives them volume that D2 has still yet to see for what it’s worth.

That's what the future is man. Every publisher with their own little store, not selling elsewhere. It's going to be cable TV all over again. Look at what's happening to Netflix and the streaming media landscape right now. You don't even need your own infrastructure, just a dev team and some AWS space. They will all do this. The irony is that EGS itself will get locked out at some point too. It will be amusing to see people who defended this doing mental gymnastics to reverse themselves when it happens.

I don't really love or hate it but all of this nonsense seems like a really desperate and cheap attempt to insert itself into the marketplace without doing any real work to get there. Walled gardens suck, they sucked on consoles and attempting to do it here will have even shittier results. The client itself is a bizarre lack of effort from such a large company and development is proceeding at a snails pace. Competition is good for everyone...when there is actual competition. This sort of nonsense does not translate into lower prices for consumers, just more uptake for publishers.

Also have to LOL at Tim Sweeney trying to position himself as the good guy in this scenario. The same guy who said the industry was doomed because of piracy and refused to release his studios own games on the platform.
