World of Warcraft Going on Hiatus

A post from Blizzard announces the Recruit-A-Friend program for World of Warcraft is soon going "on hiatus" (thanks Ant. This will go into the shop for an overhaul in about a month, so in the meantime they urge players to turn up the heat on those who have resisted entering the MMORPG for 15 years now:
Recruit-A-Friend (RAF) is heading into the workshop! The longstanding RAF program is going on hiatus while we construct something new that makes it even more rewarding to introduce your friends to World of Warcraft. As of June 11, 2019, the current program will come to an end, and you’ll no longer be able to send new RAF invitations. Don’t worry though—the program will be back in its new form before you know it.

To take advantage of the current RAF program, your friend will need to link a qualifying WoW account to yours before June 11, and will have 90 days to purchase game time to trigger any rewards.* Check out the RAF web page for the details on the current program and the available rewards.

We look forward to sharing the details of the new RAF program with you in the future!

A clever way to collect some stats (census) at the expense of the customer, because really, what expense is there for putting a feature on hiatus.

I doubt I will ever come back as I simply don't ever see them rolling back all the class changes, nerfs and homogenization ever.

Given their track record, I expect them to somehow mung up classic as well.

Kind of a silly headline, WoW did not go on hiatus. Simply one of its services.

Not a huge deal, the service was for recruiting NEW people, there is all ready a free trial where you get the first 20 levels free. It did nothing for returning people.

Getting people to return is just a simple act of fixing the parts of the game that turned us away. Simplify or make invisible the armor azurite armor leveling system, create a good 2-3 paths of progression, and reduce grindy points like world questing.

That type of mmorpg is dead. The genre is dead. You visit an mmorpg news site and they talk about the same 10 games for years. The only thing new is the occasional Star Citizen thread of complaining. Even that’s getting old now.

Want me recruited? Go free 2 play (at least for classic WoW). I don't play games I have to rent for a monthly fee.

Yeah, I don't care how many people they still have paying. Zero interest in paying for WoW at this point.
