So the game goes through stages of stability. You get a major release, like a new planet and the game will be pretty janky for a while due to all the new code that went into it until there's some less-major patches, then things generally get rather stable. Rinse-repeat. Well two weeks ago they released 3.5 which is a major release with a new planet. Wish they could have waited till 3.6, because it'll likely be similar to 3.4, very stable.
At any rate, yes.. check out the new city-planet ArcCorp if you do hop in. The area you can land and walk around in, Area 18, is a mix of Coruscant and Blade Runner.
For stuff to do, click F1 then go to the Contract Manager and pick missions. Delivery missions are good for site seeing, just note you have to be flying a ship you can walk around in. That way there's some place to stash the cargo you'll be delivering (so no fighters).
Mercenary missions may require you to scan areas for your targets. Click Tab to go in to scanning mode, and right-click to scan. Also if players have taken out the local communications array it'll be harder to find your target (if there's no satellite icon in the upper-right of your hud, the local comm array is off. You can accept "maintenance" missions to go switch 'em back on).
