I'm not sure when we collectively decided that buying a game off a retail store and then opening it to find just a Steam key, or a game installer that first installs Steam, was super OK.
I bought the game in a store, a physical copy, and the thing turns out to be 100% tied to Steam. I cannot play without steam, without installing their store, without having to log into their store and using their services and being tied to their terms of service and their extensive user and activity tracking. Even though it's a game on a disk I bought at a brick and mortar shop, it's a Steam exclusive and I now have to have Steam store on my system.
And we all have now decided that that was OK, but this, this isn't.
