Mortal Kombat 11 Released

Mortal Kombat 11 is now available as promised on Steam, offering the Windows edition of this brawler sequel, which is also now available for consoles. Early players of the game should check out this clip on Twitch where the developers at NetherRealm Studios discuss how they are already working on changes to progression and rewards, based on feedback. Game Informer has a summary: "The change will come from a behind-the-scenes tweak that the studio can do in the background, adjusting values of what you get, rather than in a full patch. A patch requires a much bigger list of tasks bundled together, so you won't seen an update notification fixing the values, it will just be different one day." The previously released launch trailer kicks things off, and here's the official description of the game:
The all new Custom Character Variations give you unprecedented control of your fighters to make them your own. The new graphics engine showcases every skull-shattering, eye-popping moment, bringing you so close to the fight you can feel it. Featuring a roster of new and returning Klassic Fighters, Mortal Kombat's best-in-class cinematic story mode continues the epic saga over 25 years in the making.

I know "In [THIS YEAR]" is a cliche, but it's 2019, how are people still whining about console games vs PC games? If you want to complain about bad ports and missing features, sure, but just whining about their existence?

I can't even fathom what a person who does this is like off the internet.

Hey... update, look at that. Since it's abyssmal mostly red negative reviews, it's picked itself up and moved into "MIXED". That's not bad considering NOTHING has been fixed yet and shows how strong the game PLAYS at it's CORE. Again, if you can overlook the MTX, normal launch issues, it's a very good game.

lol, actually. I didn't directly support the developers on this one with my method of purchase I suppose... I mean, I didn't pay the premium asking price it's being sold on most online stores (I stayed the hell away from Steam price).
As I mentioned earlier, I'm having Friday night fight night, so I needed this regardless, lol. I knew it wasn't going to be terrible AT IT'S CORE, just going off gameplay videos online and my experience with "X". Again, they got that right, despite all the rage on the micro transactions which I won't be apart of anyway.

So now, it's up to the developers to patch it up and clean up their name in the fans eyes for future purchases, but otherwise, I'm going to get all the fun out of this that I can

I did end up buying it for a heck of a lot cheaper than Steam though... Obviously with the hope of it being patched soon.

Did the industry learn nothing from the debacle that was SW:BF2?

Apparently not but "the industry" does not have to learn anything as long as there are customers like Xero who buy games on launch "with the hope of it being patched soon".

Why should anyone learn anything if they still get their monies? Gamers will never learn and publishers will never (have to) change. There are always enough sheeple who will buy new games based on hype and flashy trailers alone.

Probably because Xero isn't trying to make a point with his purchase, just play a game he wants to play. To him, the microtransactions are annoying, but the value he expects for the game out of the box exceeds the price he paid, even if it never gets patched.

if you played that mobile f2p mk11 game, you will know that the mtx and grind is pretty much a buffed up version of it

remember when MK was about pushing the boundaries of video game censorship? now it has gone woke. ( except for male characters. Now more sexualized than before )

God damn, I don't know who the majority of these characters are! I think the last time I played Mortal Kombat in a serious way was...probably around the time the first movie was out. Yikes! I can kinda see who some of these characters are (or are supposed to be), if it's indeed them and not some 'new character but with the same traits as an old one only with different color clothes'...

Hmmm, *thinks back* ...yeah, I think MK3/Trilogy was the last one I really got into, though I did play MK4 on the PC quite a bit but didn't really follow the very bare story... *shrugs* Something tells me I didn't miss much...

=-Rigs-=

I mean, depends what you are into. This is the third game of the modern trilogy. 9 retold MK1-3, X followed the kids of the main cast fighting to prevent Armageddon or something in a nightmarish future and took itself super seriously, and this new one has serious Johnny Cage from X and self aware Cage from 9 interacting with each other.

So if you want some campy wrestling level story, it's good for that! (Or at least the first two were, the new one seems like it's even cooler so far) The MTX does seem rough though. But I'm guessing you don't need to worry about it for VS or Story mode.

Yeah exactly. For local play which is a blast for fighting games, these micro transactions will have no barring. Or for the story for that matter. I can mostly see kids getting their panties in a bunch when they go online and are jelly of the other guys virtual costume, lol.

In the end, MKX was a blast and this is more of the same of that. The tiny bit I've played so far does not make me regret it one bit. It's still an awesome fighting game at it's core.

For those of you wondering about the new characters or changes, I mean that is normal for any fighting game. They'll keep the super popular characters, bring back some old favorites, create some new ones. If the new ones build a fan following, they may see their day again in a future release. That's usually how it always goes.

If it was the same characters in every game with a new release # and graphics, wouldn't that get pretty damn old quick?

It was a significant community effort. Despite Warner Bros attempt to hide the MTX store from review copies for positive Metacritic reviews, many people with knowledge of the P2S MTX store made sure the community knew about it and its marring effects on gameplay so they could make a well-informed purchasing decision. I'm proud of their efforts. Shows the publisher that they can't keep getting away with this trash with impunity and that there are adverse repercussions.

Why would someone willingly spend $60 to play a microtransaction-riddled casino gambling game with Mortal Kombat graphics? Your plastic is going to get hit with a FATALITY.

This is the assessment of the microtransaction model as per social media:
I see a lot of threads saying that earning currency is "grindy", but I think this is a huge understatement. Just consider these points:

Completing the entire story will barely give you enough currency to clear one room in krypt. From this, I got 1 brutality, some common skins and few consumables. You can't so much as clear a single hard tower with all the stuff I got.

Clearing some of the latter towers without at least rare gear and a large number of single use consumables is near impossible. These towers are not just a pure test of fighting skills, they also feature: unblockable blood missiles which drain you life and gives it to the enemy, acid rain, enemy getting armour on low health and some absolutely ridiculous damage modifiers.

Earning said consumables and rare gear is extremely grindy, requiring you to complete event specific and daily towers, as well as clearing multiple easier towers. The krypt chests get progressively more expensive and the drop rate for rare or better items is very low. For context, I opened a total of 23 chests in the krypt and got only 2 rare gear across different characters.

Metacritic is already carpet bombed with 0 review shill accounts pandering to "SJW" and "political" copypasta angles.
That's not to discount that I am sure there are people unhappy with the micro-transactions, but of the zero reviews I see a lot of SJW and "political agenda" reviews.
