1) No one ever says "all white males are neo-nazis." If you're hearing this, you need to listen more carefully. It's not what's being said, but it's what so many hear. This is why it's frequently said that white males are fragile - because so many of us hear a criticism and put the word "all" in front of it. I can separate myself from the complaints, most of which have a lot of validity
Would you say the same for the statement "black males are criminals"? Hey, no one's saying all black males, so it's not racist, right?
I agree with most of what you said - wtf_man appears to have learned everything he knows about this subject from conservative/nationalist talking heads complaining/lying about it. However, there are limits. Obviously the second statement is much stronger and has a lot of history behind it, but this sort of phrasing can be indicative of the same flawed way of thinking. I don't have a lot of time for people who's complaints are consistently of this nature because I think it indicates the same us-and-them mentality that the worst of the opposite view have.
Having said that, and as I've said before, the white male victim complex that has become so common in the last few years is remarkably pathetic. I do hope no one feels that they're the victim of anything because I said that...
As Red Eye said, I'm not sure your phrasing is an exact analogy.
However, think about this: people here love bashing devs. They call developers stupid, or liars, or evil, or terrible, or whathaveyour, all day long. It's pretty common. But if a developer anywhere says something like "the PC is less profitable due to piracy," people flip out. I mean, flip the fuck out. Grudges for decades - CliffyB and Mark Rein have been hated here for over a decade.
I wonder why that is. Why one group, who has no real power, feels fine mocking another, yet when another, who does hold some power, even if they don't think they do, even if each individual member doesn't, even if the offending member doesn't, it's suddenly terrible. Why, also, so many people make endless fun of video game journalists, but the second one says something like "gamers are acting entitled," it becomes a massive shitstorm. Why, again, when one group that has some power says something, it's bad, but when the group that doesn't have it, it's really not that bad.
I don't mean to be a jerk, this isn't really aimed at you, but more broadly, so please don't get irked by it (which, given this topic is about people being irked, is a kind of ironic thing, but please, don't feel this is really aimed at you personally, I assure you it isn't, I'm just enjoying the conversation as a whole.)
