Borderlands 3 on Epic Games Store in September

2K Games and Gearbox Software confirm a recent rumor with the announcement of a September 13th release date for Borderlands 3, also confirming speculation that the PC edition of the shooter sequel will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store until a year from now. The Xbox Wire has a write-up on the game and an Official Announce Trailer, and the game's listing on the Microsoft Store suggests Windows and Xbox One cross-platform support, showing "cross-platform co-op" as one of the game's capabilities. The press release includes box art and a couple of screenshots, but this is still fairly preliminary, as more revelations are planned for next month: "For more details on the story, characters, gear, and everything else you’ll find in Borderlands 3, tune in on May 1 for the extended Gameplay Reveal Event livestream." There are plans for four different editions with escalating perks: A Standard Edition ($59.99 USD), a Deluxe Edition with bonus digital content ($79.99 USD), a Super Deluxe Edition with a Season Pass ($99.99 USD, or $119.99 after September 17th), and a Diamond Loot Chest Collector's Edition with all the preceding bonuses and a bunch of physical goodies ($249.99 USD). Here's word on their partnerships with the Epic Games Store and AMD:
PC Gaming on Steroids in Collaboration with AMD and the Epic Games store:
Developed from the ground up with AMD, Borderlands 3 will take full advantage of the most powerful PC hardware available, and is optimized for top performance and incredible gaming experiences on AMD Radeon™ graphics cards and Ryzen™ CPUs.

At launch on September 13, Borderlands 3 will be available for PC exclusively through the Epic Games store. Borderlands 3 will be available on additional PC digital storefronts in April 2020.

“The PC gaming community has been an important part of the success of the Borderlands series, and we are excited to be partnering with Epic who recognize its worldwide popularity and share in our commitment to bring Borderlands 3 to this rapidly expanding audience,” said Ismailer. “Our mission, in addition to delivering the most engaging and captivating entertainment experiences, is to embrace new distribution platforms that will contribute to our effort to grow the audience for Borderlands 3.”

Epic store exclusive! That's bullshit. I only buy exclusives from Steam, Ubisoft, Blizzard, Microsoft, Bethesda, Origin, and Playstation.

I WILL NEVER ACCEPT EPIC STORE!

That's a nice strawman you got there... it would be a shame if anyone... pointed it out! OOPS!

How is that a strawman? While Epic’s store is indeed woefully barebones, having exclusives isn’t even sort of a new thing. Every one of those launchers/systems have exclusives. Unlike those, however, Epic’s exclusives have an expiration date.

The strawman you painted, and the one I pointed out, was of the people who protest.

I don't dispute the facts of exclusives on other platforms.

As for the analogy you tried here, it's deeply flawed. Steam got popular through 1st party titles, same for the other platforms you listed here that grew beyond their first party titles ( if any other than PS, which isn't a PC platform ).

Epic's practices are different, they weren't happy with just their 1st party titles and went on to bribe publishers to get exclusives.

Does Steam do this? Does GoG?

You see, it's one thing to have 3rd exclusives once you're well established, it's another thing to use 3rd exclusives to strongarm your way to being well established ( if it works ).

I get what they're trying to accomplish, if it's really their goal and not just bullshit cause what they really want is a piece of the pie, with the "noble" part just being an accidental bonus. And even if it works, I won't soon forget they went all Machiavellian "the ends justify any means" to get there. And I'll still favor fairer platforms ( especially GoG ).

Eventually, if and when they change their practices, I may change my mind. I won't condemn them, anyone can change their ways, choose to act differently, but itm, I do judge them for their current choices and actions, and for good reasons.

So yeah... Strawman about the people protesting + flawed analogy in 2 sentences. Pretty good density of logical fallacies in that comment.
