BATTLETECH Free Weekend

Steam announces a free weekend is underway for BATTLETECH along with a half-off sale on the mechanized action/strategy game for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Here's a pitch to entice you into trying this:
From original BATTLETECH/MechWarrior creator Jordan Weisman and the developers of the award-winning Shadowrun Returns series comes the next-generation of turn-based tactical 'Mech combat.

The year is 3025 and the galaxy is trapped in a cycle of perpetual war, fought by noble houses with enormous, mechanized combat vehicles called BattleMechs. Take command of your own mercenary outfit of 'Mechs and the MechWarriors that pilot them, struggling to stay afloat as you find yourself drawn into a brutal interstellar civil war. Upgrade your starfaring base of operations, negotiate mercenary contracts with feudal lords, repair and maintain your stable of aging BattleMechs, and execute devastating combat tactics to defeat your enemies on the battlefield.

It has the thing a lot of Firaxis games have...

Firaxis? Dude? BattleTech was developed by Harebrained Schemes and the engine is Unity so the long loading times are most likely related to their choice of engine. There are quite a few other Unity games with above average loading times even on SSDs.

Personally (SSD), I thought it was OK though.
Also, don't call me crazy because there at least WAS a correlation at some point way back near release... if you suffer from very long loading screens then try playing with the vsync setting on/off.

Not sure if they ever patched or fixed that or if it is a general Unity thing or a Unity thing of that specific engine version they are using but, whatever, just try it and see if it helps.

You can safely play a game like BT with vsync enabled obviously since any potentially added input lag is completely irrelevant in this type of game.

P.S.: Just googled the issue out of curiosity and whaddayaknow there is a relatively recent official post on this matter at the Paradox (*puke*) forums.
