Razer Cuts Game Store

Razer announces they are closing their online game store as of the end of this month, which is less than a year after this first openend (thanks PC Gamer via Neutronbeam). A FAQ on the topic informs us that Games purchased through the store were fulfilled through either Steam or Uplay, so they will remain in the libraries of their customers. They also promise to complete any outstanding preorders, and offer details on how elements of their customer loyalty program will live on after the closure. Here's the news:
We regret to announce that Razer Game Store (gamestore.razer.com) will cease operations on February 28, 2019 at 0100hrs Pacific Time as part of the company’s realignment plans.

It has been a privilege for us to recommend and deliver great digital game deals to you. We have been extremely fortunate to have you as part of our awesome community. Thank you for the support and making all this possible.

We will be investing in other ways to deliver great content and introduce game promotions through Razer Gold, our virtual credits system (https://gold.razer.com/). Do visit us there and stay tuned for more news.

I only use their Hex mouse because there is nothing like it at all and I love the idea and execution. I'm on my second, but this is like over a 5 year period which I find fine.

I will say this about Razer - their mousepads are the best.

Not even that. I remember buying a very expensive one (cant remember the name) from them and the Razer Naga did some funky stuff on it. I actually laughed pretty hard when a $100 Razer mouse didnt work on a $30 Razer mousepad.

I think the longevity of Logitech's products is less about the craftsmanship and more about their fantastic support. Case in point, I have an HP Laserjet 1200 I bought from the early 2000s that works perfectly fine but doesn't work in Windows 10 because HP stopped releasing drivers for it. You know when you buy Logitech you're going to get support for a LONG time.

Good bye shitty store!

As for mice talk.. my 10 year old Logitech G5 is still going strong and amazing. Probably going to outlast the cartilage between my finger joints at this rate.

G5? I'm still using my Dual Optical! It's about 18 years old or so When it does die in the year 3000 I'm going to send it to Logitech with a thankyou card.

I will say this about Razer - their mousepads are the best.

The scroll wheel died on my Naga Chroma POS after less than a year of use. I did a repair on it and discovered the design was absolute garbage. I repaired it several times, but the copper piece is just too thin and inevitably wears out.

There are so many other good mice that don't have this problem that are not grossly overpriced. On top of that the Razer software is insanely bloated. The whole package is garbage.

They work better if you stop nerd raging at video games and smashing them into the desk

(I'm kidding, I prefer Logitech as well)

I had about 8 of them, incl. 2 of the very first Boomslangs with balls and very expensive ones like the Naga.
They all broke down very early (always buttons or the mousewheel). Reviews of customers reflect that too everywhere. Yet they dont feel the need to act. So screw them. Not buying anything from them anymore.

Absolutely agree. After 8 years, my G5 is still going strong. I recently switched to a wireless Logitech M510 and it works perfectly (except when the batteries die during game play).

Agree, I have a Logitech G9X from 2008 that still works great.

I've never had a Razer mouse completely fail, and I've owned quite a few.

1999 - Boomslang 2000
2010 - Mamba
2012 - DeathAdder 3500
2012 - BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth Edition (Keyboard)
2014 - DeathAdder Chroma
2018 - DeathAdder Elite
2019 - Mamba Elite
2019 - Huntsman (Keyboard)

Most are still in use actually by someone if not me. I still use a 2010 Mamba wireless at work. I did have to order replacement batteries for that one. The DeathAdder 3500 had an issue with the left button after awhile. Single-clicks were actually outputting double-clicks which was really annoying, but a firmware upgrade fixed that.

Now the BlackWidow keyboard I owned was terrible. It wouldn't work without drivers period under Windows 7, and function keys would get 'hung' and not work until it was power cycled, and other issues.

I finally got brave enough to try another Razer keyboard after the BlackWidow. I picked up the Huntsman, and it's been problem free so far. I found the "opto-mechnical" keys to actually be a nice upgrade from my HyperX FPS with Cherry MX Blues rather than just marketing hype.

My Blackwidow Ultimate 2016 has been great to me so far. Only have used it in Windows 10 though.

Oh, okay. Are you realigning also because of lack of sales in mice, because people stopping buying Razer mice, because they only last 9 months?

Never had a problem with my Razer Naga Hex or my son's Razer keyboard. Used to prefer Logitech mice for handfeel, but Logitech's gaming mice went the wrong direction for me and the Naga Hex has a great handfeel(same reason I didn't like the original Boomslang, it had crappy handfeel being so flat and fat, and felt really cheap).

For the curious: Issue #s 1, 2, and 4 were a bad left button switch that would register every click as two or three clicks. Issue #3 was an intermittent disconnect. Each issue was severe enough that the mouse was unusuable.

Had the exact same issue with the first razer I bought, having replaced a 10 year old logitech. It happened within the first year I owned it.

Needless to say, I'm back to logiteceh.

Same story here. Razer mice seem highly prone to that particular problem.

The store isn't owned and operated by Razer, the peripheral manufacturer, but a company called NEXWAY with Razer's blessing.

From the Terms and Conditions.

Nexway SAS, having its headoffice at 1 avenue du Général de Gaulle, Tower PB5, 92074 Paris la Défense Cedex - FRANCE, company with a share capital of 1 814 985,00 €, registered at the Trade Register of Nanterre under Number B 440953859, and Nexway Inc., having its head office at 236, 8th street – San Francisco, CA 94103, both hereinafter referred to as « NEXWAY » or « We », are e-commerce companies acting on international scale.

NEXWAY was entrusted with the distribution of dematerialized software and other Products on this Website.

I pretty certain the announcement isn't coming from Razer but from NEXWAY.

I've had four Razer mice fail out of four I owned, and I only ever bought one.

Bought one. It failed after a year. I did research - known issue.
Contacted Razer. They sent me a replacement. It arrived pre-broken with the same issue.
Contacted Razer. They sent me another replacement, this time with another well-known issue right out of the box.
Contacted them again. They sent me a third replacement, accused me of being a thief, and told me they would no longer honor my warranty.

The third replacement lasted about two months before it broke with the same issue that started it all. After their accusation, I'll never own another Razer product, and any time Razer products are suggested I tell the story. Razer can burn for all I car.

For the curious: Issue #s 1, 2, and 4 were a bad left button switch that would register every click as two or three clicks. Issue #3 was an intermittent disconnect. Each issue was severe enough that the mouse was unusuable.
