Out of the Blue

Since I had chicken pox as a kid, a few months ago I got a shingles vaccine. This is one of those intramuscular dealies, and caused me a couple of days of significant soreness around the injection site. It's a two-part inoculation, and it's my understanding that many people skip the second shot after the discomfort of the first. Being made of sterner stuff than that, I subjected myself to my follow-up shot yesterday. The nurse warned me that this one might be worse than the first one, saying it may provoke a couple of days of mild flu-like symptoms. Sure enough I felt like hell this morning when I woke up, and I was concerned this would last all weekend. Thankfully, this passed after an hour or so, and I feel much better, though my arm is once again quite sore. I'm just over-sharing, as is my way, and I hope that I'm not discouraging anyone from getting these shots where appropriate. The new formulation of the vaccine is said to be far more effective in preventing shingles, which is good news, as everything I know about that condition suggests some discomfort is a small price to pay for preventing its misery.

by the by, for anyone that got in project stream, i got an email from ubi saying they're working on transferring my game data from my project stream account to my uplay account and they'll have an update no later than feb. 25. odd that it's taking so long - i would've figured it'd be just 1) grant access to AC:O 2) copypaste account data.

Oh sure, now you fucking get it. Assholes.
honestly it makes me wonder what goes through their heads at times like these. like, the egotism of their position in the first place would preclude most of them from admitting they were wrong, so how do they justify backing off their high horse and just doing what's right for everybody. nevermind admitting the utter idiocy of a completely irrational belief in the first place. and then *shock* the world was right and everything turned out EXACTLY like they said it would. not cuz the world was a genius nobody saw coming, but because you were an utterly self-centered prick moron. how does someone admit that to themselves?
I'd guess they'd say something like, "There was no way for me to know!" ie... yes, they are idiots.

This is humanity in a nutshell. It's really evident in aviation, for example: people need to die for people to change their habits/update their rules.

BLUE, HOW COULD YOU VIOLATE THE PURITY OF YOUR BODY WITH THAT POISON???

My friend got shingles a few years ago. He was miserable for weeks. He said it was worse than when he broke his arm.

Could we also tax the hell out of products with x% of added sugar/corn syrup/fructose? Let's prevent millions of people from getting this shit in the first place.

Huge Jackman? Huge? Not trying to be a grammar Nazi or anything but that's a pretty funny spelling mistake.

(And yes I know it's not Blue's mistake)

Did they suggest you massage the muscle getting the injection throughout the day? This is something which we were told when I was processing into the USAF three decades ago. After getting a series of various injections the staff suggested massaging the muscle throughout the day. I did, others didn't. The ones that didn't regretted their decision the next day -- some of them their arms were so sore, they could barely lift them.

No, I got no such advice. My arm is quite sore, just like last time, but I can handle that. It's the fatigue and body aches that are a little much. I just got back from walking the dogs, and I feel like I climbed a mountain.

As someone who has had shingles*, trust me, it's worth the vaccine!

*Note: I happened to get it when recovering from combo pneumonia-bronchitis.

Still better than meningitis though...

The people I know who've had shingles say it is miserable. It's all the discomfort of gout combined with skin eruptions.
