Lawsuit Alleges Secret $12M Randy Pitchford Bonus

Kotaku discovered lawsuits between Gearbox Software boss Randy Pitchford and Wade Callender, who served for several years as Gearbox Software's general counsel. Callender's suit centers around "accusing Pitchford of violating various contracts involving both Gearbox and a separate real estate company that they both owned, as well as Callender’s own employment contract." This came in response to Gearbox suing Callender a month earlier, alleging fraud and breach of fiduciary duty. They accuse him of borrowing money he did not repay in full, and abusing "the privilege of credit card access by charging unapproved, wholly personal expenses, including family vacations, gun club memberships and firearms accessories, and trying to get six-pack abs." Word is Pitchford and Callender were once close friends, but that is probably over and done with, as included in Callender's filing is the accusation that Pitchford received an illicit $12 million bonus from Gearbox, that he at one point lost a USB stick in a Dallas restaurant with sensitive business documents (which has some basis in fact) and underage pornography (which is disputed), along with other sensational details. Pitchford tweets: "As the day progresses, I am discovering who my my [sic] friends are. Thank you for your love and support. I am just going to try to focus on my work and trust that truth and justice will prevail with the courts." This also inspired the following statement from Gearbox following the original publication of the article:
Gearbox will be filing a grievance with the State Bar of Texas against our former general counsel Wade for disciplinary proceedings for filing a lawsuit that includes accusations that he knows to be untrue. The lawyer’s rules of professional conduct expressly prohibit the filing of documents that are knowingly false. The tell is within Wade’s claim itself – his use of hedged lawyer language and clever application of quotation marks betray that he knows that the impression he is trying to create is based in lies. We imagine that he used the quotation marks and lawyer language in hopes that will give him some angles of defense when we inevitably take action against him for false statements. Wade is engaged in a shakedown and he’s clearly using deceit and lies to try to cause damage by promoting a narrative that he knows is false.

I stopped giving a shit about this developer after Aliens: Colonial Marines effectively killed the franchise in FPS games. Borderlands? Im too old for that particular skinner box.
Borderlands was fun (both 1&2), and I ain't no spring chicken. But I can see how it's not some people's cup of tea.

Phony real estate company? Sounds like they're both involved in some illegal shenanigans. Be interesting to see how this all pans out.

What the fuck, first I've heard of any of this, but this sounds like it's going to get pretty damned ugly before it's over.

Holy shit this is ugly. Randy Pitchford is a known liar and a charlatan but child pornography accusations??? That's one hell of an accusation to make. That's an accusation that you had better be able to back up with evidence, like pedophilia and rape. People who falsely accuse others of such things ought to be shot.

I wonder if this is one of those things where JUUUST enough of it is true (the bonus maybe?) to make one think.
