NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix

A new GeForce Hotfix Driver Version 417.58 is now available with some fixes for NVIDIA's reference drivers (thanks Hypothermia). Being a hotfix, you probably should avoid this unless you are suffering from one of the specific problems listed on the patch notes:
This is GeForce Hotfix driver version 417.xx that addresses the following:

  • Black screen when resuming from monitor sleep on some DisplayPort monitors
  • Windows 7: FPS drop when G-sync is used with V-sync in games
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Fixes occasional application crash in DirectX 12 mode
  • Fixes black screen on BenQ XL2730 monitor using 144Hz refresh rate
  • Fixes lockup when resuming from sleep on MSI GT83 notebook

Really? In which games did this happen? I got an MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z and up to now it has been rock stable in many games. The card is really good and I got it quite cheap but Nvidia could have made it cheaper by not giving it tensor cores and raytracing bs because it is absolutely useless with an RTX 2070.
You dont have the frametime issue? AKA choppy frames.
A lot of people are reporting that issue after switching to a Turing.

I have read about those freezeframes, too, but none have occured yet. I am using a Gsync Dell LCD - so that might solve the problem of ever getting choppy frames. It seems it happens to 2080 and 2080 Ti users - maybe the 2070 does not have this problem because of the different GPU. Then again, the 2080 and 2080 Ti also have different GPUs.

As I said: up to now, I am really happy with my 2070 because I knew before buying one that raytracing is a no-go with these cards. The performance of my Gaming Z is between a 1080 and a 1080 Ti - and I paid only about $580 (incl. tax) for my card when no 1080 Tis were available anymore. That price was alright to me - those cards cost roughly $650 over here. It is definitely an upgrade from my 1070, and with a Gsync LCD AMD was not an alternative in my case.

I guess you were addressing El Pit, but I'm not having any framerate issues. I either lose all display or the PC shuts off entirely. Happens randomly, but only on certain games and only in VR. Everything else runs fine. Probably going to take Redeye's advice and run Heaven demo in a loop for a while and see what happens.

Okay, I don't have VR so I can't help you there. Sorry. Best of luck finding the problem and getting rid of it. Do other VR players have the same problems in those games with an RTX? What are the temps of your GPU/V-RAM while playing?

Usually in VR. A couple of times in TheBlu, once in the Tales of Glory demo, once in another game I forget. In the middle of the game, both the VR headset and the screen go black, even though the machine is still running. I have to unplug the headset and cold boot to get the monitor back. My thought is that maybe the power supply is glitching to the card when the card is at max rendering. My PS is 8 years old at this time, although it was a top of the line PS when I got it.

EDIT: Just tried running DCS world in VR. Two crashes in a row on the menu screen. Running it in 2D mode works fine. 40 hours in E:D VR with no crashes. Played an hour of Moss and an hour of Skyrim VR this morning with no crashes. Going to try DCS World again. Driver version 417.22

Q: What's a DCH driver and why should I care?

# If you are on 1803 you don't care. Get standard driver
# If you are on anything beyond 1803 you do care, get DCH driver

Is that about right?

Really glad they fixed the black screen after sleep bug. That was extremely annoying.

Excellent timing for this fix. Just happened to me twice yesterday.

What should be addressed:

- Makes raytracing @WQHD work at reasonable fps

Some of those are pretty specific fixes.
