Epic Games Store Launches

The Epic Games Store is now live. This post covers the news with a launch trailer and the following:
The Epic Games store is now open, featuring awesome high-quality games from other developers. Our goal is to bring you great games, and to give game developers a better deal: they receive 88% of the money you spend, versus only 70% elsewhere. This helps developers succeed and make more of the games you love.

The first games on the store are Hades by Supergiant Games, Ashen by Annapurna/A44, and Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek by tinyBuild, and theyíre available now!

Hades is the rogue-like dungeon crawler from the creators of Bastion and Transistor. It is available in early access, with updates to come every month until full release later in 2019.

Ashen is an action RPG about a wanderer in search of a home. You can forge relationships in the game, inviting other players to join your camp - they might just help you succeed.

Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek is the prequel to Hello Neighbor, the stealth horror hit. Find out what happened right before the events of the main game.

The store will also feature one free game every two weeks throughout 2019. Epic is funding these free releases so you always have something new to come and check out. The first free game will be Subnautica, available from Dec 14th to Dec 27th, followed by Super Meat Boy from Dec 28th to Jan 10th.

The Epic Games store will be growing throughout 2019 and beyond, as it opens up more widely to other games.

Same for me. Never dared to completely explore the game deep down below.
Cant wait for Below Zero.

Go on mate. There's never been a better time. Go build a base down in the active lava area, just so you can say you've done it.

Subnautica was my 2018 game of the year. There's nothing like that feeling you get when you know there's a reaper close.

Subnautica is awesome ........

My son won't even finish his game because he gets too creeped out at the deep depths with some of the freaky creatures...

It is awesome. I've had a lot of jump scares in the deep myself. Even in the Titan sub I don't want to come close to the big nasty fuckers down there. Can't wait for the new biome.

About to give up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

I hope this roguelike fad dies down soon. I'm tired of seeing a dungeon crawler, rpg or arpg that is a "roguelike" or "roguelite". To me, that means "we've made frustratingly hard, very simplified, and the only way you'll progress is to play through the first stages of the game 50 times". I don't like doing the same things over and over.

I hope they make as many as they want to, not that I'll buy it, but it's odd to tell people what they should or shouldn't be doing like this. Don't buy it. Coin ops were all rouge-like and that is a fairly broad term now.

Wasn't the Epic store to be DRM free?

My Epic account is linked to a defunct email provider, and it appears they still won't let you update your email. Seems like launching a store without that functionality is a bad idea, no?
If it forces you to buy everything again, then it's a feature not a bug.

Step 1: Announce another DRM based games store
Step 2: Ensure there are some launch exclusives
Step 3: Add some freebies to generate positive feels
Step 4: Remove Epic games from other stores
Step 5: Add increased competition, lowering costs so devs can make more profits
Step 6: Ultimately things settle down, Epic now owns a small percentage of the online market, game prices don't get any lower and Gamers now have more titles fragmented across yet another online storefront.

Some stuff seems good, but the only long play that I care about are DRM free services like GoG.

What did support say when you talked to them.

I donít know if Iíll buy much on it, but for small dev games, itís a better deal for the devs, thereís no way to argue against that. The only game in that category that Iím interested in is Satisfactory, which has a very high chance of being on the Epic store when it launches.

Coffee Stain is not a small dev anymore, after the millions they made from Goat Simulator (on Steam). They've since begun publishing other indies, too, and just a few weeks ago they were acquired by THQ Nordic.

While Fortnite is still the most popular fame in the world, which requires using the Epic Launcher (now the Epic Store), itís effectively the same thing Steam did. ďUse our platform to play the game of the yearĒ.

Any idea if we need to worry about Epic games like Unreal disappearing from GOG and/or Steam? Guess I need to make sure I've got what I want on both platform, at least by the 2018 Winter Sale.

people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

I doubt it will be any appreciable percentage, but I wonder how many people will hedge on using the Epic launcher due to Tencent owning ~49% of the company? It is a concern of mine, particularly in light of tech/economic moves in the last 2-5 years.

Like Twitch Prime, I'll sign up and take your freebies, but I doubt I'll ever install the client or any of the games. I honestly don't even know what games I have on Twitch because I don't see a way to check what you own without installing the client. I know most of them are games I already own on GOG or Steam, but I think some of them are/were new to me.

Well that's great for the devs but what about the consumer? Doesn't look like it. Currency is in US I guess? It doesn't say. There's apparently no way to contact them either. So looks like an Epic fail to me so far.

So is this DRM-ish like Steam, Uplay, and Origin where you have to have thier application running with the game? Or is it like GOG where you can opt to download the games and run them without runing thier app (Galaxy).
