Out of the Blue

Welp, Daylight Saving Time ended in the wee hours of this morning, making today the oddball 25-hour day. I don't know anyone who minds the extra hour of sleep on this one day, but I also don't know a single person who thinks that switching the clocks twice a year is a good idea. There are certainly enough of you who've voiced agreement about this in our forums over the years, and there is always a flood of articles surrounding the occasion to explain how detrimental it is. I guess that's a comment on how hard it is to change established norms in our modern world, as after (exactly!) 100 years this practice seems impossible to reverse in spite of how difficult it is to find someone who thinks it's a good idea or has a positive effect. Anyway, remember to turn back any clocks that don't adjust themselves automatically, and to check the batteries in your smoke detectors.

If the the kidney is on the left side of the body, both you, the charge nurse and the surgeon should understand whose left it is they are talking about lest it be confusing if you're laying on your belly versus laying on your back.

In this case, the kidney wasn't supposed to be removed at all. He thought it was a tumor because it was in a place where the kidney wouldn't normally be. The woman had a condition where the kidney never moved to its proper location, but remained in her pelvic area. This was known to her doctors and visible in the MRIs she had taken. He had apparently not reviewed those, and blames the medical center for not notifying him.

IMO, it's entirely his fault, and she should get a large settlement from him.

I live in Scotland and you really do notice the difference in daylight that DST brings. Maybe those in more southern latitudes dont.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Warpig -- what happened? You picked the Thursday game but not the early Sunday games? Good thing your current "bad" week is pretty good.

And imo we should put whoever put this law in place in an insane asylum.

I think it sort of sucks though when states do it and not the country. For ex this is on the CA ballot, so 1/2 the year will be x hours difference and the other 1/2 a different x hour, I won't like that even more.

My wife has had three total knee replacement surgeries (one didn't take). Each time the surgeon marked the knee with indelible marker and this marking was also verbally verified by the surgical nurse and the anesthesiologist. Each one also asked about any allergies, even though the info was on the chart. I guess it really does matter where you have the surgery and who does it. We've been going to the same orthopedic clinic for over twenty years and will never go elsewhere.

They should just call it Cher day, If I could turn back time....

With all the medical stuff I've been going through in the past year I've seen the screw-ups first hand. I most certainly do not take anything for granted and insist on crossing the T's and dotting the I's for anything I'm involved. I keep copies of everything on hand specifically for that reason. I've gone in for tests where they weren't going to do what they were supposed to do until I handed them doctor's requisition personally. Wires getting crossed is all too common in the medical industry unfortunately. Like me dear ol' Ma has always said, 'If you aren't an advocate and responsible for your own healthcare, don't expect anyone else to be.'

Florida Man is now Florida Doc

It's to the point now that you need more than one person to verify which leg should be hacked off. There should be a consultation immediately before surgery with the charge nurse, surgeon and someone with a GoPro filming the whole thing.

The item to be removed, or side of body to be opened, should be permanently stained or tattooed with "cut here".
If the the kidney is on the left side of the body, both you, the charge nurse and the surgeon should understand whose left it is they are talking about lest it be confusing if you're laying on your belly versus laying on your back.
