Diablo Mobile Backlash

Most BlizzCon announcements are met with enthusiasm from the gathering of Blizzard fans, but the company really stepped in it with yesterday's announcement of Diablo: Immortal, a new installment in the action/RPG series being created for mobile devices. The response on the Diablo Reddit raking Blizzard over the coals suggests there may have been a better way to handle this, as they made the mistake of hyping this announcement which raised hopes for a proper PC game. As an example of the discontent this is causing, one can look at the Diablo Immortal Cinematic Trailer on YouTube. Blizzard's cinematics usually generate incredibly positive responses, but as of this writing, the clip has 7.7k upvotes and 232k downvotes.

They are trying to grab some of that mobile cash cow. The Blizzard everyone loved died a long time ago, this is just a corporate copycat.

It's the same basic game as NetEase (Blizzard's Chinese publisher/partner) used for Crusaders of Light, Endless of God, and...Kung Fu Panda 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8hK1UFzyBg

Fans are right to expect more, and to be frustrated that this pablum is what they're getting "from Blizzard".

Note that this presentation was supposed to be the high point of the evening. This spot is normally reserved for new WoW expansions or some other big news ... and not some cheap mobile rip-off.

The frustation and bewilderment from the crowd was nearly palpable even in the stream. This silence, this arkward silence ...

If you don't like it then don't play it. Simple as that. Not sure why fans feel entitled to a fully fledged Diablo sequel. It's only been 6+ years since Diablo 3 released. Considering it's Blizzard fans should expect to wait at least 10+ years for a sequel.

They need to get this out and on phones as quick as possible, similar to Candy Crush on Windows 10. Make a deal with Alphabet and embed it into Androids code, sweet lootbox transactions for all. Talk about a win win combo.

There is no "entitlement" whatsoever. There is only a very deep dissapointment from the visitors of BlizzCon, that the major announcement was a cheap mobile game.

Beth made it better. They too announced some Elder Scrolls mobile dreck, but they knew their audience and they closed with an Elder Scrolls 6 announcement, confirming it's developement. People were pleased, no shitstorm.

This and the fact that Skyrim, if a bit disappointing for long-time fans, wasn't the disaster that was the Diablo 3 launch.

All the people and media types criticizing this backlash seem to have forgotten the immortal words of Jay Wilson, "FUCK THAT LOSER" during the D3 launch (in reference to a D2 dev criticizing D3). Lets not forget Error 37 either.

But some ticket paying fan swaggers up to the mic and straight up delivers the truth, saying what most were thinking is mean, nasty and bad. He didn't even cuss like Wilson did.

This seems like a strange hill worth dying on. Blizzard has company now though because it's those darned toxic gamers at it again according to the likes of Forbes.

Then again, all they need are ultra die-hard or ultra casual whales to turn it in to a monetary success in spite of being creatively bankrupt so I can't wait till the sequel, Diablo: Immortaler.

Actually I believe they also stated the mobile game would have a PC version as well.

Yeah, at least ES: Blades is for...well, everything - mobile, consoles, and PC.

I think things would've helped quite a bit if Blizzard actually announced Diablo: Immortal will also come to PC.

This is all about the cash. It's based of a f2p, p2w model....ripe for the Chinese/Asian market. They don't give a fuck about the IP or the playerbase. Everyone should have been well aware of that when Diablo 3 launched with it's rainbows and marketplace.

Blizzard hasn't given a damn about quality gaming as an art form since Burning Crusade. That was the point of their shift to full corporate where the art of the product is tertiary to the monetization and market penetration.

Did the Blizzard guys need to call for security so they could exit the stage safely?

The disconnect from their fans and what they want is double facepalm Picard worthy.

The company that made Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 does not exist anymore so this surprised only people who don't understand what kind of shitty publisher Activision really is.
