Out of the Blue

Today is National Coffee Day! This is something I can wholeheartedly get behind, as I sure do love my coffee. USA Today has details on various places where freebies and discounts can be found on a cup of joe (thanks RedEye9). For those in other regions, take heart, International Coffee Day is just a few days away.

Links: Thanks Ant.
Play: Sleep Walker.
Story: Freak accident at Jack in the Box drive-thru kills Missouri man, 20.
Science: Rat disease: World's first human case discovered in Hong Kong.
Media: Overwatch vs TF2: No Way Out.
If Yahoo Answers existed in the Eighties...
Military Helicopters Flyby Under Brooklyn Bridge in NYC. Seems like a bad ideal.
Follow-up: RoundUp disrupts honey bee gut bacteria.
The Funnies: Adult Children.

Maybe, but if he was from a very wealthy family, why was he working in a game store? Whatever. Doesn't matter, I just thought it was odd when he said it.

I think this might be the best game room setup I've ever seen. Holyyyyyy sheeeeit.
He worked in a game store but managed to afford this stuff? Definitely some interesting items there.

He talked about growing up with a sharp x68000, so I'm guessing he comes from a very wealthy family.

That wasn’t a “freak accident” at jack in the box. It was someone being stupid. I’m betting his family wasn’t excited about a headline reading “idiot driver gets killed by his poor choices”.
Probably, although I'd say "poor execution" instead of choices...

Considering the outcome I’d say the execution was pretty spot on.

On the bright side, we probably have this years Darwin Awards winner.

Not at all. Darwin Awards are for people who intentionally do something stupid and get killed in the process. This was just general negligence.
One way or the other, it's evolution in action.

By that rationale everything is evolution in action. Regardless, it's not what the Darwin Awards are about.

But everything is evolution in action.

Nap of the earth flying is a regular thing for military helicopters. Takes a bit of skill as you can imagine, it's a skill worth learning, because in a modern combat environment, if you are seen, you're pretty much being shot at.

Read an interesting article over at Bloomberg talking about Musk and his tweet about taking TSLA private and the trouble he is now in with the SEC over it. The reason I'm mentioning it is the author of the article apparently wrote another article about TSLA possibly having an announcement (the day of the tweet) based on rumors he'd heard. He received an email claiming this:
I sent your piece about TSLA potentially announcing something today around to some friends yesterday (cuz I thought it was funny) and one guy took it seriously and spent $150 on $295 puts expiring this Fri. According to him they’re now worth $35K.

No telling if it is true. But I find the possibility amusing.

I think the driver meant to put it in park, but put it in reverse without realizing. When he leaned out of the open door to get his food, he used his foot to brace himself and pressed on the accelerator by accident.
