Out of the Blue

It seems Windows Update is going through one of its rough periods. At least I've been having problems the past few weeks, and I don't think it's just me. Yesterday I had a Windows 10 update break a bunch of Microsoft bundled apps like the calendar and calculator. It took hours for this self-inflicted wound to clear itself up, as the service seemed to be sending itself mixed messages about what was wrong. And on my Windows 7 machine there's this update for Explorer 11 that just keeps failing. I don't use that browser, but the error Windows Update throws is bugging my OCD streak. There's an error code with no explanation, so I guess I'll try deleting the browser and letting it try again. Or maybe just delete it and forget about it altogether... it's probably only a matter of time before they come out with a Win7 edition of Edge to harass me about.

Same. I see no good reason to update to Win10.

Using Win10 for a while now, haters be damned, you can see the difference here vs all their previous O/S's. They really are adding new features and tweaks as they go along, it's real and it is a nice model (as long as they still allow me to admin my system). It makes the O/S more dynamic and fresh. I hope this is to be the last win O/S they release as they allude to. I like this plan better as updating to a new O/S's isn't some great "can't wait for it moment" either. USE FULL SYSTEM BACKUPS AND PC LIFE IS BETTER, ITS INSURANCE FOR YOUR PC.

I like the new features and look for sure.
I don't like that it has been my most unstable windows version to date.
This is my 3rd install of it too.

And it's the same story for the work laptop Windows 10 as well.

MS' (and many other companies') QA are going downhill for everything. I hope you guys are making backups often too just in case! I'll hold onto reliable 64-bit W7 as long as I can like I did 32-bit Windows XP Pro SP3.

You ever seen a sunshade for the garden? 1 single nylon cable and a plastic nob with a tied knot is all holding that thing "up" cost 200€ to buy a new one, cable costs 4€

They can make anything easily borked and hard to repair if they want.

With this latest Windows update I seem to be getting an annoying message popping up when I boot asking me to sync windows with my phone. Does anyone else get this? If so, any idea how to remove it? I tried googling but all I got was instructions on how to remove the normal windows login screen.
Is it a native windows prompt, or did you ever install phone carrier or phone manufacturer software.

It looks like one of those notification popups in the lower right corner similar to the Windows Defender summary that sometimes shows up in the same area. I've never installed a phone carrier, phone manufacturer software or even said yes to those occasional website popups that want to send me notifications.

I don't even own a smartphone although I occasionally charge my ancient cell up with the computers USB port. But I always tell the phone just to 'charge' not be a device.
Hmmm,
Does any of the following look familiar?
https://www.windowscentral.com/3-ways-disable-sync-phone-notifications-your-pc-windows-10

https://www.pcmag.com/feature/356701/how-to-sync-your-phone-with-windows-10

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17274/windows-10-mobile-sync-phone

If the above failed and you were my customer the first thing I would do is restart the pc and run an adwcleaner scan, it takes 15 minutes on slow systems. https://toolslib.net or here https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

If it finds more than 10 things I would run a malwarebytes scan.

They'll engineer one crucial component to break, that way you get to pay the price of having something with this high-tech alloy, but still have to purchase replacements just as regularly.

Just like SP3 for XP was Microsoft's final stab in XP's back, Redmond will continue to make life hell for Windows 7 users. Have you tried uninstalling ie, restarting the computer, and nuking Windows Update from orbit. manually reset each Windows Update component to default
I've also had good luck with running the default tweaking.com Windows Repair. Allow it to back up the registry and run it in safe mode.
