Out of the Blue

I recently picked up a new travel mug, one of those Contigo dealies that claims to be spill-proof. This is a well designed device, and lives up to its billing: You can lock this and toss it in a bag and it still won't spill. It's also double-wall insulated, so I decided I would try it as a desk cup to help keep my coffee hot. This worked out too well, and after two days I've given up on the experiment. This thing kept my coffee so hot I was still burning me a couple of hours later, and the heat was so extreme it took an entire day to finish one cup. leaving me slightly undercaffeinated. This is definitely too much of a good thing. I could let it cool more before affixing the lid, but it would take much less time than that to refill and nuke more coffee, so the goal of added convenience won't be met here either way. At this point I'll just be happy to recover from this experiment. I haven't had such burns in my mouth since I gave up microwave pizza.

Experiment with adding a few ice chips to your coffee until you reach the desired speed of consumption.

A customer gave me an RTIC tumbler, think YETI but cheaper w/the same performance. Not spill proof and the lid is not insulated, but even then the coffee stays hot for hours.

Yup, I got a Yeti and an ARTIC from my last job. I've found that if I keep the lid off, the top of the coffee is sippable within a reasonable amount of time, and it basically keeps the whole thing drink-ably hot for hours. If you put the lid on, it's mouth scorch city all day long.

Just remove the lid for a few minutes to let it cool quicker. I have a couple of those things too...careful with pressing the drink button the first couple of times after filling it up (unless you actually like steam in the face, then carry on...)

Put flask in freezer for five minutes, or pour coffee/tea from height. They're good flasks, just too good.

So I have to decide on my new ride by the end of next week. Got it narrowed down to the Kia Niro or the Hyundai Tucson. I really like both of them a lot so it's going to be a tough choice. Tucson has the AWD, is slightly bigger, more cargo space - which I need - panoramic sunroof and more power - I'll be getting the turbo model if I do.

The Niro on the other hand has a nicer interior, only has regular sunroof, but just crushes everything else - in the Xover/Suv vehicles - in fuel efficiency, even a lot of the plugin hybrids. Official line is 50mpg I believe but there are guys on Youtube showing they're averaging 60+ MPG - 66 MPG is the best I've seen. So while it doesn't have the AWD or other sexiness I'm only filling up the tank once for every three times I would be in the Tucson. That's substantial over the long haul.

Yesterday I spent the day driving a few of the Tucsons of various trim levels, and the day before I took a Niro out for a 2 hour drive. Ugh, it may come down to flipping a coin as the price on both will be the same - likely about 30k on the nose for their respective trim levels. Anyway, pretty excited as it's been a decade since I've bought a new ride.

Then I'll be breaking it in with a road trip to the US second or third week of Sept. Me and the broshack are deciding either to head up to Lambeau and see the Pack and check out Milwaukee and Chi-town over 3 or 4 days, or go Detroit-Cleveland-Buffalo and back home. In which case we'll catch a Lions game or one in the Dog Pound. Anyone care to chime on where it would be more fun to see a game - Detroit? Cleveland? Buffalo? Chicago? Green Bay? Gotta' do a bunch of house and clothes shopping along the way too.

Love my Contigo mugs. My first one lost the vacuum seal after I dropped it 20 feet onto concrete. Closing the lid at the right temperature is key.

I did some quick research on fentanyl and it's inbred cousin carfentanil aka elephant tranquilizer, both of which have entered the drug chain. For reference: fentanyl is 100 times more powerful than heroin and carfentanil is 100 times more powerful than fentanyl.
You hear the term grain being used, as in "1 grain of fentanyl is deadly".
So what is a grain. In the example above, the grain being referred to is an unscientific measurement; a grain of sand, salt or sugar.
In the measurement world a grain weighs ~65 milligrams (0.065 grams). Here is a picture of what 1 grain of gold looks like.
Reference that with time release fentanyl patch that deliver anywhere from 12 (0.000012 grams) to 100 micrograms/hour.

No, that's 14K more than all of the US soldier deaths in Vietnam. More than 280,000 allied soldiers died, more than 425,000 NVA/VC soldiers died, and over 625,000 North and South Vietnamese civilians were killed by both sides.

You're right, I was referring only to US military deaths, from memory at that. Still, 14K more puts the number into perspective.
